Anguilla dining

I'm wondering how easy it is to leave your resort for dinner, i.e. getting taxis, are there many restaurants from which to choose, etc. We're thinking of staying at Cap but don't want to be limited in only eating there.

Anguilla is considered one of the capitals of dining in the Caribbean, so you'll have no shortage of choices.

I personally would consider renting a car. Driving on the island is gentle and you'll soon find your way around (it's a small place). A round trip taxi to and from dinner could easily be equal to a day's car rental.

While cab fares on Anguilla can add up pretty fast you will have no trouble getting a cab at CJ as there are always several waiting to takes guests whereever they may want to go. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to ask the concierge to have a taxi standing by if you know you are going off rsort at a specific time. If you do chose to take a taxi to dinner let the driver know you'll need return transportation and he/she will be pleased to to come back come back for you.

All that being said, I agree with Callaloo that a r/t trip to one on the more distant restaurants could cost you as much in cab fares as a daily car rental. Certainly if you make 2 or more r/t's from CJ to almost anywhere on the island you'll spend more in cab fares than the cost f a car rental.

Thanks so much! Also, are most restaurants there very pricey?

There are certainly a fair share of pricey spots, but there is plenty of reasonable choices as well. A few that come to mind are:

Picante
Tastys
Smokeys
The Ferryboat Inn

There are enough restaurants on island to fit all budgets.
