7-Hour Layover in San Juan, Luis Munoz Marin airport
Hi there. My sister and I have a 7 hour layover at the San Juan airport on our way to St. Lucia. We would like to see Old San Juan and I understand it is easy to take a quick taxi there and walk around. Are there also beaches near Old San Juan that we can relax at for an hour or two? Our goal is to see some of Old San Juan, the forts, etc. and if possible get on the beach for an hour. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi
You have 7 hours between flights - you need to take into account:
Time to get off plane
Time to get to and from Old San Juan (at least 30mins each way maybe more depending on traffic)
Time to get back through security for your 2nd flight.
Realistically you will have 4-5 hrs to do stuff
Taxis are available right outside the terminal and the cost is a fixed price.
You can walk around OSJ with that amount of time and see one of the forts). There are beaches in Isla Verde that are close to the airport also.
This article has a few more ideas http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/2008/...layover-ideas/
hope that helps

I would recommend doing one or the other, not both, for the time constraints delineated by coqui in the above post. When I have a really long layover like the one you're facing, I like going into Old San Juan. When I have a shorter one, with only about 3 hours to spend outside of the airport, I like going to Pamela's restaurant in Guesthouse Numero Uno. There are tables right on the beach, the food is good, and it's a very pleasant way to break up an arduous travel day. Eating lunch on the beach gets me into relaxation mode early, despite having to return to SJU for a connecting flight.

I agree that one place or another will be more relaxing. I really think you should look at it as 4 1/2 hours including almost 45-60 minutes RT for taxi should you hit traffic caused by an accident or whatever. I vote for OSJ if it is between 11AM amd 4PM. Just don't buy the novelties made in China or India.
