thanks again, Jeff. Seems like it's important to take quite a lot of cash anyway, as well as non-US issued cards.

And I take heed of your warning about driving with alcohol being a no-no. One of the things that worries me about driving is that if there is an accident, you can end up being detained in Cuba for many months even if it's not your fault.

I certainly wouldn't fancy having to do that.

I am sure plenty of upper crust Americans will be in Cuba in January

Money and influence will prevail
Also January is peak time for wealthy Yanks to take a short flight from blizzards to tropics.

Lots of rich, selfish Americans have the same agenda as self proclaimed selfish Brits.

You said it yourself.

Ferry service from Florida will begin soon.
So wishing Americans a 2 year wait is not only selfish but uninformed.

Also I read in The New York Times that round trip flights begin in October from New York to Cuba round trip 250.00.

So maybe even Middle class Americans will get to enjoy Cuba sooner than you hope.

Happy trip .

Sayler, there are still many restrictions in place on how we Americans may travel to Cuba. The flights and ferries are not open to leisure travelers. Americans still have to fit into one of 12 categories to be approved for travel to Cuba. Lazing on the beach is not one of them.

Lazing on the beach is not all Cuba has to offer.

The people I am referring to are what lots of us call snow birds
They have plenty of money to spend, mostly retired and just want to be in a warm place.
Many have been to Cuba long ago and would love to see it again
I am not a young person and I am friend's with lots of folks who would rather go to Cuba than Florida.

We would like a chance to see the cars, musical antiques
We know we can purchase 400 US dollars in goods and 100 in tobacco and alcohol.
A group of 12 has already begun an organized trip leaving Jan 2nd
These are just people my family knows.

You assume wrong

I meant to say bring back 400 worth of goods.
I am only responding to the fact that most don't want to wait 2 years.
Especially those who want to see Cuba as it is now
For a person from the UK to wish the American people who have a heritage and have grown up hearing stories from our parents and or grand parents about the wonderful place it was before to now wait a few years so she can enjoy herself better.
It tells a lot Ann.
