Yonge/Bloor restaurant suggestions

Hi Fodorfolks,
Heading to the Panasonic Theatre in a few nights but can't think of many restaurants that are close by for a decent meal before the show. We would to prefer to be within a few minutes walk. Anyone been to Bumpkins lately on Gloucester St? Used to go there for special dinners in my youth - I didn't even know they were still in business! Thanks as always for any help.

Springrolls on Yonge (a block north of the theatre on the same side) and Saigon Sister (a block north on the west side) are both excellent pan-Asian at reasonable prices. There's a Spanish restaurant called Segovia that's not far. And for general cuisine, the Bloor Street Cafe in the Manulife Building.

Haven't been to Bumpkins for years and I can't believe it still exists!

I wouldn't recommend Bumpkins but it is reasonably priced and would be a blast from the past! Also along that line if you are simply interested in a pizza, the Olympic Pizzeria which used to be on the south side of Gloucester (?) just east of Yonge, is now across the road in the premises that were once Fenton's! Good pizza still.

Pangea on the east side of Bay north of Bloor is a good choice for fine dinning. The food is excellent.

Bloor St. Dinner in the Manulife Centre has a fixed price menu for about $25 plus drinks. Offers good value. Can be crowded since it services the movie crowd.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. We have decided to throw caution to the wind and go for the blast from the past - Bumpkins it is. Brave aren't we? Review to follow -thanks again!

We did end up eating at Bumpkins and it was just as we thought - a blast from the past. I don't think the menu has changed in 25 years but the food was actually very good - a pleasant surprise. The room itself though left a bit to be desired - smelled like moth balls which they told us was the adhesive that had been used on laying the new carpet. Hopefully that will dissipate but I couldn't help but think my old Aunt Agnes was lurking about somewhere. So, if you like decent, affordable food in a quirky atmosphere, Bumpkins is for you.
