Would you be worried...

We are supposed to stay at a B&B in Niagara Falls tonight and tomorrow night, booked it last month. It's the McGrail House on McGrail Ave. and it is #5 on trip advisor.

Well I tried to email the B&B owners yesterday to give them a better time of when we are arriving, and I did not hear back. Husband left a message last night, and they did not return our call. I tried calling at 1pm and about 10 min ago, and again they are not answering.

Is this common for B&B's?? I've never stayed at one before.

I'm not sure what I would do if we got there and no one was there.

Seems strange that they would not answer, not great customer relations. I wouldn't be too worried at this time of year. Should be plenty of rooms available in town since it's past peek season. Have a couple of backup places in mind and check on availability before you leave. If you have any issues with McGrail when you arrive, call your backup and make a reservation.

The guy ended up calling 15 min after I posted this, so it worked out in the end. Something seemed fishy though, my husband thinks they did lose our reservation, and had to scramble at the last minute. I guess we'll never know the truth though.

The B&B was fantastic though, great food, very nice hosts etc.

Amelie - losing the reservation is OK as long as they work it out and you still have a place to stay without any delay...

This is a good reminder for others to confirm reservations right BEFORE leaving on vacation (when you can make other arrangements if something's gone wrong). It would have been terrible if you hadn't called and just showed up and they had rented out the room to someone else.

Yep, you are right, that's why I always call! We were the only guests there that weekend. The sister was in town from Montreal and we heard the one owner say to her, sorry they didn't have more time to just hang out. But she said it was ok, she learned a lot (she cooked breakfast for us). The other owner was not there all weekend.

I took it as she came down to fill in for the other owner that was gone. My husband thinks that they had planned to not rent out the B&B at all that weekend, since she was visiting. Their website said all rooms were booked (but we were the only ones there). My husband's thoughts make sense to me.

When I typed in my confirmation # on their website, it came up NOT FOUND. That what was really getting me worried and why I kept calling.

But it doesn't matter since it worked out and I'd stay there again.
