Victoria for a Day
We will be taking the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria for a day during the 2nd week in July. Any suggestions of what we should do and see and where to eat would be appreciated. Also, we have the option of taking a ferry that transports cars or a more express one for just passengers. What would you suggest?
Thank you!!
Thank you!!

You do not need a car in Victoria so I wouldn't bring it. You can just walk on the ferry (Coho) that carries cars and it is cheaper than the fast ferry. That depends on you as far as times etc go. If you are short on time and the fast ferry fits your schedule than I would take it - otherwise the Coho is very comfortable and in July has several sailings. Just in case you don't have it here is their website

The area where you disembark is right in the heart of most of the tourist attractions. The Royal BC Museum is world class and is located within two blocks of the terminal. The Empress Hotel is there as well as the Legislative Buildings. All very nice buildings to see. If you want to go to Butchart Gardens there are tours that leave from that area but if you walk up to the bus terminal just behind the Empress they do have regular scheduled shuttles to the gardens so you can choose your own times at a much lower cost. Just walking around that area is a lot of fun with a lot of minor attractions etc. There are lots of restaurants in the area as well so it depends on what you like. I don't know where you live but at that time of year it will stay quite light until 9:30pm so plan a full day. Post if you have anymore questions and enjoy your visit.

If you are just coming for a day I think just going to Butchart Gardens
(getting the shuttle I recommended) and wandering around the inner harbour will fill your day. As I said there is a lot to see within a few blocks of your ferry terminal. The Royal BC Museum is a must - it is excellent http://www.bcarchives.bc.ca/MainSite It is really worth the visit to give you an overview of the province, the people, the history with many hands on exhibits.
You will see what I mean with a visit to the gardens and visiting the attractions right there in the inner harbour you will fill the day.
If you have any specific questions just ask.
