Vancouver to Victoria - No Car
We will be visiting Vancouver on business in June and want to spend a weekend in Victoria. Can we get from the Vancouver Airport to Victoria without a car?
Thanks so much for any information. Any cozy hotal suggestions in Victoria would also be appreciated.

Hi Ronda,
I would suggest renting a car for the weekend otherwise you are limited to places to visit. It would be a shame not to venture out of the Victoria area. There is so much to see on this fantastic island. I believe there must be busses/taxis at the airport that would take you into Victoria for the 1/2 hr. ride sans rental car.
Have you checked out the Oak Bay Beach Hotel website in Oak Bay? It is located in a beautiful residential area overlooking the water. We stayed a month in Oak Bay and found it very quaint and picturesque.

It is not that far from the airport to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal - if you don't have a car, you can take a taxi. You can then walk onto the ferry to Victoria. Alternatively, Pacific Coast Lines (http://vancouver.com/gettinghere/vic...uses/index.htm) runs a bus from the airport that drives onto the Tsawassen ferry.
You could taxi and bus your way around Victoria, as it is a rather compact city. You could also rent a car in Victoria, which would save you the cost of driving a car onto the ferry.

The bus operated by Pacific Coach Lines takes you right into downtown Victoria, and unless you're particularly interested in exploring other parts of Vancouver Island, you can walk everywhere from there. There are buses that run from downtown to Butchart Gardens, as well.

FYI Called to make a reservation at the Royal Scot in Victoria and the clerk told me that the ferry is about 1/2 from Vancouver and 1/2 hour from Victoria. Suggested we take a PLC bus from the airport to the ferry, and a bus from the ferry to Victoria. He said the PCL Desk is on the ground floor of the airport.

Here is the web page for the bus lines. You get on the bus and ride it on the Ferry (I understand you can get off the bus while on the Ferry). I haven't figured out if I need a reservation yet. It takes you to the bus terminal in Victoria:

I am assuming you don't want to just fly.
At the moment the bus runs 7 times a day from the Vancouver airport to downtown Victoria for $36. Might be a bit more in June. You don't reserve, and on the bus you don't have to wait in ferry lineups either. Yes, get off the bus on the ferry and go to an upper deck. (Make a note of the bus number before doing so as there may be number of them parked around yours when you return.) There, you can eat, buy a magazine, book, etc. Luggage is locked in compartments so you don't need to worry about it. If you want to keep the same seat for the whole trip leave a sweater or something of little value on it during the ferry ride.
By the way, the bus depot in downtown Victoira has a sign on the side that announces trips to Butchart Gardens for $4, I believe. It might be quicker than a city bus if it doesn't make all the stops on the way.

Ronda.
Are you young at heart enough to rent a 50cc scooter? Only car drivers license required.
Bus to Butchart one day for a half day outing.
Rent a scooter the next and ride the scenic loop for an exilarating half day outing. I think they are restricted to 20mph, so you cannot kill yourself.
