Vancouver - skid row

actually that area is not too bad if you want to be within a short walk of Gastown, the Cruise ship terminal, Canada Place and the Pacific Centre mall. The really gross area of skid row is within a few blocks of Main and Hastings and you wouldn't be that close. Not that you won't run into a few lowlifes in that area but that's true of anywhere in such a densely populated area.

I never heard of the Victorian Hotel so I can't comment on that but I assume it's very reasonable. If you're in doubt about the quality of the hotel there's a Day's Inn on Pender about three blocks west of Homer which would be a known quantity and also relatively reasonable.

Gary's right that address is fine.
It's called the Victoria BTW I haven't heard of it either, I surmise it's an older place now gentrified although I could be wrong.
As to the second question for Nicholas-NO!
That's actually one of the WORST parts of Vancouver, although to be fair it's right by the Via Rail/Bus Station.
The only accomodation in those parts I can think of is the Ivanhoe Hotel, a bad mistake, even the Railway Crews won't drink in the Bar there which should tell you something.

I forgot-the Homer Street Hotel is close to Chinatown-which is not Skid Row, although it's close.
Chinatown is a vibrant, crowded, colourful, noisy, vivacious place, something for everyone.
Feel free to wander, and be jostled, it's a free-for-all at top volume, all kinds of interesting stores, stalls and restaurants and bakeries.
I live about a 30 minute bike ride from there and try to get over a few times a month it's a slice of real Vancouver serving a large and diverse Asian population, definitely not to be missed.
