Deciding between three hotels, westin grand, listel and metropolitan-- tend to like more modern hotels, and I received comparable prices for all, but all look nice, so anyone stay in any of these recently?
2. Suggestions for casual but nice restaurants downtown, italian, bistro, tapas, etc?
3. ANyone play golf at university golf club that can tell me if accesible by taxi?
thanks

Hi Stacy,

Based on location... Westin Grand is on a quieter part of Robson, next door to the Vancouver Public Library (building that looks like a modern Roman Coloseum). It's a few blocks away from Yaletown (trendy, modern neighbourhood of cafes, shops, expensive boutiques). And it's a few blocks away from Gastown (oldest part of Vancouver - a mixture of vintage shops, great restaurants and tourist traps). It's also about 3 blocks away from Vancouver's main shopping areas.

Metropolitan is supposed to be a boutique hotel, however, it's sandwiched between the city's large office towers. It is, however, blocks away from shopping, great restaurants, etc.

Listel is probably a bit older (I could be wrong!) - my boyfriend's apartment is one block away and his view looks over to this hotel. It's on Robson Street which is probably the heart of downtown Vancouver. Robson is home to all the major shops and a good selection of restaurants (especially sushi! - there's over a dozen sushi bars on Robson). The location's ambience probably isn't anything to write home about as it's next door to the other hotels (ie: Pacific Palisades, the Tropicana), but still in a very lively part of the city.

2. Vancouver Magazine (a monthly magazine which oftenly features the city's restaurants) has a great mini-review section on their website:

Here are their suggestions on Italian restaurants. They also have mini-reviews of other types of restaurants too:
http://www.vanmag.com/diningout/italian.html
