Vancouver/Comfort Inn on Kingsway?
OK, I know it doesn't sound glamorous but I need an opinion on this motel in Vancouver. It is just a one nighter to see the area and then on our return trip we will find something a bit more upscale.
Anyone familiar with this motel and area?

Yes, it is near where I live. What in the area do you want to see..there is not much around it other than metrotown, which is just a huge mall. I would recommend staying downtown unless there is something nearby that interests you...although I cant think of what that might be...

Maybe Cedar means the Comfort Inn on Kingsway near Main Street. In that case, it's close to downtown, near several transit options, and with numerous inexpensive restaurant options nearby. It's a safe neighborhood, in my opinion, but not gorgeous.

I usually stay at the Comfort Inn so I know what to expect....I am also staying at this particular one because of the 30% discount that I receive...$50. + the Canadian taxes and free parking.
We will have a rental car so we can get an idea where we want to stay when we arrive 2 wks. later.
We are not necessarily interested in shopping or downtown but more interested in seeing the parks, a couple of museums, unique neighborhoods and the market on Granville Island....maybe some sites in the northern area.
But, where to stay when we return...I have done so much research I am just quiting and waiting until we arrive on May 11th.
Sooooo, is the Comfort well kept and acceptable in your opinion?
Thanks!

The hotel itself is fine but the area is somewhat sleazy especially a few blocks north. So long as you have a car to go where you want from the hotel I suppose you should be reasonably happy considering the excellant rate.
And don't dis the downtown. Vancouver's central core is not like most of those in the states which are abandoned after business hours. In fact almost 100,000 mostly middle and upper income people live on the downtown peninsula and it is for the most part clean, safe and attractive with a great many attractions.

Presuming this is the Comfort Inn near Main and Kingsway, the neighborhood is now labeled "SoMa" (South Main) and has been described as a new trendy neighborhood. I can't really see it as such (because I've been familiar with it for so long), but there are numerous cheap ethnic places I happily eat at all the time and I walk around that area all the time as well. The hotel itself looks okay from the outside and I think it's fairly new, but I don't know anything about the inside.
