Toronto hotels (again!)
After scouring through the forums for reviews, I've narrowed my hotel choices to:

The Park Hyatt
Hilton - an executive room
Sheraton Centre - a club level room
Cambridge Suites
Marriott Eaton Centre - executive room

What I'm wondering is: does anyone know approximately how big the rooms are at the Hyatt and the Sheraton Club Level? I called the Hyatt and they said 340-480sqft, but on the website they list rooms as being about 500sqft. I'm not sure if this only applies to a certain tower though...(anyone know which one)?

Also, the Hilton and the Marriott offer "Executive" levels- are these worth the price?

Thanks!
Hi, ps! Hoping I can be of help here. While I cannot advise as to the Hilton, Sheraton or Cambridge Suites, I can report that we spent several days at the Marriott Eaton Centre last summer, and cannot wait to return. The Concierge Level is DEFINITELY worth the additional money -- IF you're staying there during the week, when all amenities are available. I cannot tell you

Oops! Hit "post" prematurely!

I cannot tell you the room-size, tho the room felt quite spacious; we spent most of our time in the Concierge Lounge, enjoying the various amentities -- free sodas, bottled water and snacks, 24/7; hors d'oeuvres tasty and filling enough to make us skip dinner; a private concierge on duty to make reservations, etc. The staff could not have been more attentive. We also appreciated the terry bathrobes that Concierge-Level entitled us to.

Also, the hotel is connected by a passageway to the Eaton Centre mall, which was a fine diversion.

Hope that helps!!!

I stayed at the Cambridge Suites in 2000. I measured our two-room (three, almost, if you count the spacious vanity/dressing area)suite to be 500 square feet exactly.
Cambridge provides all of the goodies you'd need to be comfortable, including a welcome basket of snacks. They will deliver your continential breakfast to your suite, too.

Our view was blocked by the adjacent office tower, but one could still see the edge of New City Hall, the Cadillac Fairlane (I think) tower atop Eaton Center and the tops of ScotiaBank and other tall towers in the Financial Core.
Parking I recall was inexpensive, especially for a metropolis like Toronto.
Cambridge has evening turndown service with mineral water, chocolates on the pillows and lush terry robes to enjoy. Also, a comfortable ergonomic leather desk chair and fax machine and 2 TV's with 50+ channels, microwave, fridge, wet bar, glassware and silverware. There was even an offer to do your grocery shopping for you.

The Penthouse health club and whirlpool with the view of the city and lake facing Northeast were nice touches.
You are a half-block off Yonge Street, one block from The Bay and Eaton Centre, and PATH access is provided, so your location is very good.
Prices hover around $250-300 Canadian, comparable to the other hotels.
I would stay there again, especially given all the extras. The 500 sq. ft. room really feels good to strech out in after a long day of business, touring and shopping. By the way, our suite had two full size closets to stash away your goods.
I hope this information helped.
Let us know which hotel you choose.

Susan and Bruce,

Thanks for your help! There will be four of us, and the suite sounds appealing for the extra room (and the free breakfasts!). However, we also have some Marriott Reward Dollars that would help bring the cost down a bit.

Will let you know our choice once we make it...we're deciding to splurge a bit after having a less-than-spectacular time at the Days Inn on Carlton Street.

For an early Oct visit to Toronto I've found a weekend rate at the Sutton Place for about $106 per night US dollars. Normally I understand the rates are higher. Is anybody familiar enough w/Toronto to advise whether this rate makes it worth the $10-$12 per night more than the nearby Courtyard Marriott & Best Western Primrose? Or the $15-$20 more than the Days Inn Suites?
By the way, the close proximity to the "gay village" of all of these is not a minus for me.

We have stayed in almost every major hotel in downtown Toronto and the Sutton Place is one we won't stay in again. We too had a great rate and it was more than you quoted. I think the hotel has a great variety of rooms because many people seem to like it. But I think people with the "great rate" get the worst room. Ours was tiny, didn't have a light switch by the door, the ivory painted furniture was dirty, there were not bedside tables. I have staye in nice Super 8's.

Hi ps!
We stayed at the Cambridge Suites earlier this month and it was our favorite of the trip (also stayed at a Sheraton and Wyndham). The bedroom area has a king size bed and the living area has a pull out couch. The staff was wonderful and the amenities were already listed by a previous poster. We paid $199 Canadian for three nights and $179 Canadian for one night - AAA (CAA) discount and I mentioned when I called that some other person on this forum had gotten the 179 price so they gave it to me for one night! Continental breakfast is included - you can have it delivered or eat in their breakfast room. It included fruit, cereals, toast, bagels, danish, muffins, juice, coffee. Wonderful!! We can't wait to stay there again if and when we return to Toronto. Good luck!
Maureen
