Toronto Holiday Inn : King St W

Need some help in choosing a dwntown To. hotel. We are going to Lion King & want a hotel that is a short walk away. Can someone tell me about the Holiday Inn on King St. West? How does it compare to the Westin Harbour Castle? The Sheraton on Queen? The Royal York? Can we walk underground from the Sheraton to the Lion King? Wld. appreciate suggestions.

The Holiday Inn is not as fancy as the Sheraton but it's a great hotel if you want to walk to The Lion King. It's about a 15 minute walk from the Sheraton to the theatre. If you want to park your car and not need it again go with the Holiday Inn, many nice restaurants in the area.

Susan - you might also consider the Crowne Plaza on Front St. The hotel is three blocks from the theatres, and the walk after the show is through a vibrant and active entertainment district. This hotel gives you the quality of the Westin HC, but closer to the action, restaurants, and theatres.

Thanks for the comments! Cindy, is the 15 min walk from Sheraton underground?
Gary, I will call Crowne Plaza. Is that the one @ Skydome? I read somewhere that there was a hotel in Skydome.
I had also asked about a hotel near Belmont street as we are also going to see The Mousetrap.(see post below). Can somebody pls. suggest a hotel which is conveniently located to both Lion King & The Mousetrap which is on Belmont.
Thanks!
Any of those hotels that have been mentioned aren't within walking distance of the theatre on Belmont. But it's not that far - a cab would be fairly inexpensive. You could also take TTC (transit - probably bus along Bay Street), but I'd recommend a cab.

The Crowne Plaza isn't the hotel at the Skydome. I'm not sure what the name of that hotel is. Personally I like the Holiday Inn. My office happens to be in that building (part of it is offices) and it's really a convenient location. The Lion King is just a couple of blocks away and there are loads of restaurants right there.

Sorry Susan, I don't know if you can get from the Sheraton to The Lion King underground, I did the walk aboveground (I'm great at getting lost, so I like to see the major landmarks!)
The hotel at the Skydome is now a Renaissance Hotel. Recommend Sheraton or Holiday Inn over Skydome.

The Lion King is playing at the Princess of Wales which is about 5 blocks west of the Eaton Center. Eaton is the epicenter of downtown. If you are going in the dead of winter forget the Westin. It's a nice modern hotel, but its on the lake and its like staying on Lake Michigan in Chicago. It's a bit remote from downtown and walking in near unbearable in the winter.

The Royal York is the grand dame of hotels in Toronto. It's old but well maintained. Certainly its a couple of cuts better than the other Sheraton or Holiday Inn. There are a number of hotels close to Eaton that you might consider. If you're going when the weathers reasonable, any of the hotels you mentioned is within walking distance.

I would probably choose the Sheraton as a more central choice. Yes, you can walk underground except for the ending up on the south side of the street and having to cross to the north side at the light where the Princess of Wales theatre is. Follow the signs to Roy Thomson Hall but go just a little further before you head to the street level. From the Sheraton you can head north, south, east, or west. Should you decide to stay inbetween your 2 theatre choices, then I would go with the Yorkville/Bloor St. area. Try the Marriott Bloor/Yorkville. You don't say when you are going or what you want to pay. If it's fairly soon, I would imagine you can get a fairly good price from any of the hotels. Try for a package, or concierge floor or club floor, etc. Hope this helps.
