Toronto here we come
Need to know a few things...We're coming to Toronto at the end of July- hubby's home town but he hasn't been there in almost 30 years. Is the Windsor Arms or Park Hyatt preferable? Have reservations at Susur Lee..need suggestions for Greek restaurants..any "must sees" for his American family?
Thanks so much!!!

It's a matter of taste choosing between the park Hyatt (just another fancy Hyatt hotel) and the Windsor Arms, which has been torn down and completely rebuilt since your husband left town, and is distinctive, but smaller. They are so close together that location does not matter.

There are fancy Hyatts all over the poorld, but the Windsor Arms is pure-Toronto.

For Greek, probably your best bet (most fun) is just to go to Greektown and walk along the street and look inside, check out the patios, read the menus, and pick from the assortment in front of you. There's a dozen to pick from along Danforth Avenue from Broadview to Chester / Logan and beyond.

The best "must sees" I believe are linked to interests. If the family includes hockey fans, the Hockey hall of Fame; photographers? the Jane Corkin Gallery. Tiny kids? -- the Children's own Museum. Bigger kids? The Royal Ontario Museum and the Science Center.

Just about everyone would be amazed and astounded and entertained by a walk from Queen and University west on Queen Street to Spadina (arty dressed in black counter culture meets mainstreal), north on Spadina through Chinatown, up to Kensington Market and back down Spadina to Dundas, and east on Dundas to the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Are they fans of Willie Shakespere's work?

BAK

Thanks for the suggestions..we'll be driving his old neighborhoods! Any other restaurant or shopping suggestions (for me). I love the unusual and intriguing.. Takashimaya in NY and hardware stores in Europe! We live in the SF bay area so good food is important (love the food in Vancouver!).
Thanks to all who can help!

We live south of the Danforth, so often head up there for dinner. We like Ouzeri, also have had good meals at Pan and Mezas (and several other restaurants along the street). I'm not sure when Taste of the Danforth is on (or if it's on) this year, but it's usually at the end of July. The whole street becomes one huge restaurant.

Check out "New York Restaurant" at the south-east corner of Danforth Avenue and Broadview, right across from the Pizza Pizza. They have excellent gyros and the a delicious salad, and the shish kebabs looked delicious, but I haven't tried them yet. Low price too.
I believe the pope is coming during World Youth Day. I don't know much about his visit or the WYD, except that there have been fewer enrolments than expected, and the media have reported that the Catholic Church may lose money on the event. A lot of the events are either in Downsview (North York) or at the Exhibition grounds. I don't know how crazy it'll be. There are often conventions, etc. going on in Toronto, so I don't know why it would be that much different.
