Tofino accomodations

Wow--prices seem very high here. Any recommendations for moderate but nice places?

I have friends who stayed here last summer and found it most comfortable and convenient. The rate was quite reasonable (compared to some of the resorts) http://www.tofinomotel.com

what is your budget and your priorities
Do you need to be on the beach?
How many people in your party and do you want a kitchen or just a room? More info would help to find you something.

We are going in late Aug/early Sept (the last week of "high" season, I'm afraid! We could do either a room or a place with kitchen. As far as being right on the beach, I'm just not that familiar with the layout there I don't mind walking to things but just how spread out is the town/areas of interest? We will have our car, of course, but hopefully could walk to some places. I guess with the minimal amount of web-surfing I've done, I'm just a little shocked at how many places are well over $250 per night!

yes Tofino has gotten very expensive.

Here are a couple of lower priced options for you.
The Dolphin Motel, on the highway, you can walk to Chestermans beach. Nothing fancy but a clean place to stay. Tofino is not a big place so you can drive into town, or walk from here.
price is up to $160 unless you want a kitchen for $10 more a night.

another option is Middle Beach Lodge, on the beach at McKenzie beach which is a smaller calmer beach closer to the town of Tofino. This would be a forest facing room, nice place
around $150 a night.

Or you could stay in Ucluelet which is less expensive but great to stay as well. They have wonderful walking trails and a number of motels that are much less than Tofino. The drive between the two towns is 1/2 hour each way.

We are also going to be in the area during August and have booked a B&B Bostrom's on Little Beach Bay ( I think it is approx 20 mins from Tofino ????) It was $170 plus tax and looks great. Very nice views and balconys.
Got good reviews on trip advisor.
www.gobc.ca is a good site to look for accommodation.

Donna that is in Ucluelet. It is a 1/2 hour drive between Ucluelet and Tofino but about 20 minutes to the main 'long beach'. Ucluelet has a lot to offer.
If you are spending a few days there what I do, and advise others to do, is plan full days in Tofino so that you are not driving all the time and you have to buy a park pass to go to the beaches, except for Cox/Chestermans and McKenzie which dont charge.
The pass is good for all the Federal Park beaches for the day so may as well get your moneys worth and then end up in Tofino for dinner and a walk around the town.

In Ucluelet there is a lot of wonderful things as well. THe Wild Pacific Trail is a great hike/walk around the edge of the ocean and we see whales every time we walk it which is at least six times a year. You just have to be patient and look until you see the spray and then you will see them.

THere is a great little aquarium there, tiny but the staff is so knowelgeable and helpfull that you will learn a great deal about the west coast waters in there.

THere is a fantastic tour out of Ucluelet on the Archipelago.

We took this and saw bears, bear cubs, sea lions, whales and the broken island group. Well worth the money.

Black ROck hotel has an amazing view of the ocean and waves crashing on the rocks and has a great meal for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is a bit pricey.

Norwoods is a very upscale small little resteraunt for dinner on the main drag.

Ucluelet is more laid back than Tofino and we love it. It still has that small fishing village feel to it, although there are more and more upscale places going in. Not as touristy as Tofino.

Thanks again for your suggestions live42day.
We really liked the look of this B&B and did not mind the location.
Thanks for the advise about the park passes. I will keep this in mind.
The tour looks great. I hope we are as lucky as you to see bears and lots of other wildlife.
The black rock hotel sounds like a great place to spend some time.
Thanks again for yur help
