The Juniper, Banff

The old Timberline Hotel in Banff has apparently been remodeled as The Juniper. Magazine reviews before it opened said it would be trendy and fun and have views.

I have not been able to find any reviews of the hotel since it reopened in Dec. 2004.
I have read old reviews of the Timberline saying it was "old". The Juniper is supposed to have millions of dollars of remodeling done. And there are apparently views...
Has anyone been there?
Would it be fun for a couple who want to go on day hikes and eat and drink wonderful meals at night?

Until you mentioned Timberline, I didn't realize that it had been renovated and re-opened under new ownership.
So I took a look at their website, it must have JUST opened because they are hiring all sorts of staff including cooks and front desk attendants etc.!! The location is good especially if you are interested in a nice view, it is just above the highway and overlooks the Bow Valley to the south of it (and Vermilion Lakes just below the highway). But it wouldn't be easy to walk from there to the center of town (you'd have to cope with the highway - unless there's a hidden trail somewhere).
I would certainly give it a try - if it's new it might be a fun experience!!

Never having been to Banff, I am happy to hear you think the location is good, Borealis. It looks right next to the highway. You wouldn't get highway noise? And from the photos, it looks like the view is great...
Thank you so much for your help!
Also, what do you think of Moraine Lake Lodge? They charge a fortune and I keep reading about all the crowds. Is the view and luxury hotel worth the price?
Thank you!!

Hello hyacinthcourt -

The Juniper is just outside of town, but is situated so that the views are nice. Personally I prefer a more secluded woodsy location, but this one is easy to find. I don't know whether the noise from the highway would be a probelm - but it's always a possibility, especially if you keep windows open etc.

Moraine Lake is a stunningly gorgeous location, a scenic jewel!! I haven't stayed at the Lodge, but would choose it any day over The Juniper. It's a bit out of the way location-wise (you'd have some distance to drive to get anywhere), but if you don't mind that - it's the way to go.

Wow, this is the place my DH and I found many years ago (obviously under the old name) when we arrived in Banff a day earlier than our reservations. We stayed at this hotel for one night before moving to the Banff Springs Hotel and then Baker Creek Chalets. The location was fine, we did have very nice views, and we did not feel like we were sitting right ontop of the freeway. I am with Borealis though and prefer more secluded places. I guess that is just a matter of personal preference though. Anyway, yes it is very close to Banff and with easy access.

I can't wait to tell my DH that this place is all redone!
