should we pack cool or cold weather clothing?

for our 3 week trip to nf, nb and ns? coming from southern calif. where it's yukky hot, we're not sure what to pack. have checked out the weather forecasts and it looks like it'll be highs of 40F, lows of 30F. planning to take only a carryon bag also! rubber boots recommended for rain? many thanks

dear lotus, are you able to be more specific as to the packing? we have the clothing, just don't want to take too much or too little. remember our goal is to take only a carry on bag.

Dear Gracie,

You will help those who know help you by telling when you are planning this three week trip for. December is different from October.

Well based on what you have seen in weather reports it should be straightforward what you need to bring.

Fall clothing, including a waterproof or water resistant jacket. Bring pants, shorts will not be required. Long sleeves and sweaters would also be recommended. But the weather can be variable. Today and tomorrow it is supposed to be in the low 20's in St. John's (we operate in Celsius in Canada not Farenheit), but thats an anomoly, it should be cooler.

Also rubber boots will probably not be required, and you will stick out like a sore thumb if you wear them, plus they arent very comfortable to walk around in. When it rains here it is like everywhere else, the water runs away and it shouldn't rain all the time, and you shouldnt need boots unless you plan on being out in a storm for a prolonged period of time. Just bring comfprtable footwear that would be appropriate for wearing in a shower or possibly damp ground, should the occasion arise, light hiking shoes or boots might be a good bet.

Gracie:
Layer, layer, layer. Coming from SCal you will feel colder than usual. So I'd pack jeans, casual slacks, turtle necks, that can be layered with a sweater & jacket. Foot wear, sandals are out, sneakers, sturdy footwear, is fine.

Enjoy your trip.
