Shalom, Chaver. Although I've never actually stayed in the Le Soleil since I live in Vancouver I do know people who have stayed there and they generally consider the rooms to be of high quality and the service to be very good. The main drawbach of the hotel is that it's located among a cluster of tall buildings that restrict the views. this is an important consideration in this gorgeous city. The location is very well suited to shopping and business needs and is technically in the very heart of downtown if this is important to you but I would reccomend one of the haurbourside hotels of which there are many very high quality ones ranging from the Pan Pacific, the Westin Bayshore, the Fairmont Waterfront, the Delta Pinnacle and the Rennaisance.

The weather in May is usually beautiful with temperatures in the low 20's and mostly sunny days. However, except for the latter half of July and the first half off August, weather in Vancouver is very unreliable and I've seen many May's where it was cool, grey and damp so no guarantees. May is also when the Alaska Cruise season starts in earnast so there are a lot of tourists in town but it's not nearly as bad as July and august. There are a number of web sites for Vancouver which you can access by www.vancouver etc. Have a great visit. We have many Israelis here.

I stayed at le Soleil this May and agree with Gary completely. While the suite was nice, (narrow though with a dreary patio) and the service excellent, the lack of views bothered me. Vancouver has one of the most outstanding settings in the world, I think, so to be looking at buildings instead of the water and mountains is a shame. It probably wouldn't normally happen but the carpets had just been cleaned while we were there and were still wet. Also, I don't care for valet parking.

So, as nice as it was, I wouldn't stay there again.

We had no rain but there was a chilly wind during our visit. Roads were dry and clear for a drive to Whistler.

Barbara, if I am reading your message correctly, (i.e. reversing the 'you' and 'would', then the place I would reccomend for New Year's Eve would be the Wdgewood Hotel, (very European Chic - only 89 fivew star units) as the top of the line. There are certainly other places under 100 units with good ambiance but unless the $150-$200 CAN is out of your range I don't thinlk you'll find anything better.

On the other hand it may already be too late to get a room - to say nothing of a table at the New Year's Eve bash so if you are going to act - act now!
