We're pretty open to any type of food. We love a fabulous 3-4 star restaurant with 1-2 star prices, but any restaurant that is great is what we're looking for. We'll be in Vancouver for 4 days, so we'll have lots of meals with both lunches and dinners.

My favorites:
- Cioppinos in Yaletown (Mediterranean with West Coast flair)
- Vij's (11th and Granville) for unique Indian food - note you cannot make reservations for this so you arrive on Saturday at 5 pm or put your name down if you miss a table and then get 2nd seating for 7-7:30 pm. Food is worth it though.
- Chambar (Belgian and must make reservations)
- Bacchaus at the Wedgewood hotel - I'd try this for lunch - food is good and lunch can be less expensive.

I agree that Bacchus for lunch is a wonderful way to spend an early afternoon. (Somehow it just doesn't do it for me for dinner. Not sure why.)
For dinner Lumiere and Quatro are also popular, but, as I suggest above, West is better for my money.
Bishop's is a perennial favorite among Vancouverites, but I've never been.

*Phnom Phenh (Cambodian/Vietnamese -off Chinatown)
*Chambard (new Belgian hotspot) on Beatty
*Shabusan (great all-U-can eat sushi/Korean grill) on Burrard or S.Granville or you can go upscale with Tojo's on Broadway
*Sun Sui Wah (Cantonese)on Main

The Beachhouse was recommended by Fodorites to my group of eight. We loved it! We had been hiking in Whistler for a week and it was just the place to sit, enjoy great food, charming ambiance, and dynamite desserts! Highly recommended.

Though the following aren't restaurants, they're great casual meals-on-the go or treats.
Here are a few very inexpensive favorites for my family -
*Steamed buns (chicken /BBQ pork) and apple tarts from New Town Bakery in Chinatown on Pender St
*Pajo's fish n'chips on the docks in Steveston (you will need a car), otherwise Go Fish off the seawall by Granville Island
*Fruit slushies (with tapioca balls & coconut meat) from Dragon Ball Tea House off Oak (on King Edward Ave)
*Coffee/cappucinos at Cafe D'Artiagano

We were there twice in May and the food was excellent and good strong coffee.
I am very particular about good food and cleanliness.
Maybe you should take a risk and return.
But, if you are looking for animals, you better not.
