Really quiet here?

Is it my imagination, or are thngs really quiet here in the forum, especially compared to last year?

Do we blame it on new passport rules for Americans?

I check this forum frequently, too. Not much action lately. Passports might be the reason, but I'm more inclined to think it is the economy, but the Europe board continues to move quickly, so no idea what the problem is. Perhaps, the usual contributors are all on vacation.

We're coming to Canada next month; we are escaping the heat of the Georgia summer.

Would you like to chat about Montreal, Quebec City and/or Halifax? BAK. I think you may be living in Toronto, a nice city but we have visited there.

I check here often since Canada is one of our favorite summer destinations. But noticed that as well. Don't think it has anything to do with the passports. It's all about the economy IMO.

But while we're at it, would you guys PLEASE send one your Canadian cold fronts down our way? We're having a record heat wave and I'M TIRED OF IT!!!!

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's just Canada or just the Fodor's forums. I'm finding the same thing on several of the forums. It's depressing for those of us who like to read about destinations, even if we're not going anywhere!

I think ever since they redesigned the forum, it scared a lot of people away.

I agree with Carmanah about the new design of the forum being a factor. I know I spend a lot less time herer than I did before.

I'm not here as often since the forum changed either. For one thing, they tend to have it offline when I check in late at night.

The new forum put me off in the beginning, but I am used to it now; it is no longer a factor. Maybe, everyone is out doing something more interesting. . , though I can't imagine what could be more interesting than reading Fodor's! As we get closer to our Vitoria trip, I check more often. BTW, I received my free copy of Fodor's Canada today and it was fun to see a lot of the respondents on the Canadian board like Carmanah above quoted, since I have relied on her in the past (think Steveson!) for information.

I thought about the reformatting as well. But like others, I've gotten used to it and I don't see a reduction in other forums like US or Europe. Not sure that's it, but could have an impact.

decee - unfortunately we need the rain too! Argh!! But we'll help as soon as we can (probably when we get one of those storms from the Gulf and get several months of rain at once).

Well, if we're swapping weather, I would be very happy to have some heat please. (Not too hot - anything between 70 and 80F would be nice!) We've barely had any days above 70/20C here in my town in the Rockies. Alas, I know that once we start getting some warmth, the mosquitoes will appear.

I'm here for my yearly questions. We never made it to Toronto last year as I had hoped, just Niagara Falls and NOTL. I am planning something for October though. I figure we will drive after work on Thursday (from Cleveland), stay overnight in Niagara Falls (we love the falls), and then head to Toronto early Friday morning through Sunday. I think we may stay in a room overlooking the falls, haven't done that in years (usually stay in B&Bs). I am considering the Marriott. I prefer the Hilton's location but there are a lot of bad reviews recently on tripadvisor due to construction.
And now on to Toronto hotels. I had a Holiday Inn booked last time, but need to reconsider, and the budget may be higher this year.
I'm excited. I don't know what it is but we feel this need to head up at least once a year.

Amelie, probably a good idea to start a new thread, instead of being buried at the bottom of a different topic.

A downtown Holiday Inn has been rebranded, so you might not find it, anyway.

I visit much less since the new format. Then I had a long reply with links and all and Fodors crapped out when I clicked submit. I gave up.

I too wish this forum was busier. We'll be in Montreal near the end of September, and I'm always checking in to see if there are any new threads with Montreal info. I've already had all of my questions answered for our upcoming visit, plus I've got the Fodor's Montreal/Quebec City 2008 guide (I was quoted in it). Now I just have to wait 10 weeks until I can be back in one of my favorite cities.
