Rafting in Jasper or Banff?

Could anyone advise whether rafting would be better to do in Jasper or Banff? We are traveling with two younger children (7 and 5) but they've been rafting before in Alaska and loved it.

We don't want anything too mild, but obviously nothing too rough for the kids.

Also, any company in particular recommended?

Thank you.

JASPER and only Jasper. Banff is on the Bow river and it is very tame.
Jasper has several companies that raft the rivers in the area. Jasper Raft Tours is the largest company, with the larger rafts. With this company you sit and they row. Depending on the month you go and the weather, you will have 3 to 4 class river (a good ride with good waves and some water in the raft. However, there are others that use smaller rafts and the people help row the raft down the river. Your kids may be to young for the rowing, but they may allow them to ride in the middle and have fun. You will have to ask when you get there. Info on all the rafting companies in town can be found at the info centre in Jasper or any of the local guide books have the numbers.

Have fun, I done both and their both great.

Thanks for the info. Should we make reservations ahead of time (we're there in July so it's high season) or would there be no problem waiting until we're there.

The only reason I would hesitate to book early is because the weather (as I understand) can be unpredictable and we'd prefer to go when it's not raining, if possible.

Hi Todd: You really don't need to make a reservation for rafting, even in July. There are several Companies to choose from and several different rivers and ratings. Anyway, doesn't really matter if it's raining does it as you're going to get wet anyway!

Annie - www.anniesabode.com

Todd: That depends on what sort of rafting you are looking for and whether you want a big Company or a Jasper based operation.

Raven Rafting is locally owned and operated.

Annie
