I'm considering staying here on my trip to Toronto in June. I've read many messages about the less-than-ideal location, though I see it on a map 1 block from a subway station. Is it truly inconvenient to get to the interesting tourist attractions from here even with the subway? The difference in rate compared to say, the Hyatt to the north or the Fairmont to the south would buy me a lot of subway rides. If the subway is any good, I figure that I can't be but a few minutes away from everything else. Any advice would be appreciated.

The immediate neighbourhood of the Sutton Place is not exactly the most happening place but you are not at all far from interesting streets to walk on. You map does not lie, you can easily walk to three differnt subway stations.

I'm one of the nay-sayers about the Sutton Place location, but only because there are other places even more convenient.<BR><BR>If you can save twenty bucks, and if you have comfortable shoes, subway plus some walking is good value, especially in June when the walk to the subway is much more comfortable than it is in the winter.<BR><BR>And, if you walk in the opposite direction, you cross parks and enjoy flowers and end up a few minutes later at good museums and in nice shopping districts.<BR><BR>You're right. If you were visiting Toronto in the winter, I would recommend a different hotel (one that is connected by the underground paths to a subway station and shopping malls): e.g. Sheraton, Marriott Eaton Centre etc. However, in June it's neither too cold nor too hot that you'd be desperate not to step outside (too many negatives in that sentence but you get my point). Gavin is right - the Sutton Place is not located in an interesting location (except during the film festival, when it's full of stars and across the street from one of their favourite hotels), but it's very central - and only a few minutes walk to many of the places you'd like to visit (or to a subway or bus that will take you there). It's also only a few blocks away from a nice little park that provides a good jogging circuit.

Sutton is in a great location to commute aroundthe city. Both North/South subway lines are a short walk away. You are across the street from Provincial government buildings and a short walk from U of Toronto the largest U in Canada. The top floors of the Sutton are private apts occupied by well heeled folk so the Hotel is very well maintained. Across the street is the restaurant Bistro 990 where many Hollywood types dine when in town for film production .You are a 10 min walk from Yorkville area...dining shops etc.

If you asked a question about what hotel you should stay in then you would get an honest answer based on location.<BR>It would have nothing to do with a subway token, other than it would be a bonus to be near a subway. I like to suggest Bloor/Yorkville since there's no shortage of restaurants, shops, and things to do. My first choice would be the Park Hyatt but the Marriott Bloor is also nice and has some good specials.<BR>I like the Marriott Eaton Centre and the Sheraton since I think they are near a lot of interesting places as well. Nothing wrong with a lovely hotel like Sutton Place, it's just not the best location...if you're asking.
