Quebec City - where to stay
My husband and I are planning on visiting Quebec City and are hoping someone can give us some advice on where to stay!
We have looked at a B&B L'Oasis de Reves on Orleans Island. Does anyone know anything about this property?
I'm concerned about not staying in old town...will this be a pain for sightseeing?
We are looking for a very nice memorable place to stay! Help!!

Lynn,

My husband and I have vacationed recently (for 2nd time) in Quebec City. August 02, we took the ferry(roundtrip) to Orleans Island. Many folks (locals and tourists) got off here; many with bicycles; a few with vehicles. I am uncertain if you stay on Orleans Is. it is easy to reach old town without a hassle.
We have stayed at Hotel Dominion 1912 (located in lower town) twice and have booked this small, lovely hotel for our 3rd visit late summer. My subjective opinion: we would stay at Hotel Dominion over other properties which we've toured during our stays.
Read Fodors Rants/Raves for other first-hand opinion re: Hotel Dominion 1912...it really is a gem!

hi...Hubby and I have been vacationing in Quebec Cicy nearly every year since 1986. We always stay at the CHATEAU DE LA TERRASSE, a small pension stule hotel right on Dufferine Terrasse. It is the ONLY hotel in the city that has a view of the St. Lawrence river other than the FRONTINAC, which iw quite expensive.
I have just now made my reservations for this July and our room, we always stay in room 14, is 139.00ca. It has 2 double beds and private bath with a balcony.
you are overlooking the boardwalk and the river so if you go during Summer Festival time you can enjoy everything all at once.
I feel very safe here.

This is not a plush hotel but it is clean, comfortable, pretty, newly redecorated rooms, great security and the people are great.
They speak French, English and a couple other languages.
We highly recomend this hotel, the ambiance quite surpasses anything else we have ever tried .
I hope you will try it.
You can see pictures here on my website.
http://www.simsstudio.com/CANADA.htm
Molly
Depends on what you want. Ile de Orleans is a very beautiful unspoiled island right outside the city, but you will have to get into the city, which could waste some time. If you prefer to stay in the old city, you can stroll around the streets at night, and just walk back to your room. There are several small b&b's on rue St. Ursline (sp?), which is in the heart of the old city, but is a fairly quiet street. We stayed at the James Thompson b&b on St. Ursline several years ago, a charming but simple place.
