Preferred Route for Driving the Rockies in November

I am leaving Toronto October 24 2016 to drive with a trailer to Vancouver Island for the winter. Would the preferred route be along the Trans Canada Highway or via I-90? I am towing a 16 foot travel trailer.

I'd stick to the U.S. Highways (I-90), myself.

Agreed.

Note that if you are driving on the inland BC highways (which includes the TransCanada) your vehicle - and I assume the trailer - must have at least M+S tires as per provincial regulation.

October generally is fairly early in terms of winter weather, but we've already had quite a bit of snow this year. Plus there is a fair bit of construction on the TransCanada. So you need to have a good emergency kit, have lots of flexibility in the case the road is shut or there are delays. In the last month, the TCH has been shut or had major delays between Calgary and mid-BC due to weather, police activity and construction.
