Planning mini-stay in Vancouver - need some dining out help.
We are seeking a little help in planning where to dine during an upcoming stay in downtown Vancouver. We (seniors) are heading to Vancouver for a "treat-to-ourselves" mini-trip in early-December (birthday celebration and anniversary, and never too early to start planning, eh!!). For three days and nights at the Wedgewood Hotel (wow, sure looking forward to that!!) and seeking some restaurant suggestions, and/or opinions of some pre-selections being considered.
Here are some criteria being used in our considerations -- we will be dining 'out' for dinners only (breakfast will be supplied each morning, and we are not into doing much for lunch - we will catch snacks as needed, when out & about, etc.). We want restaurants to be within 'decent' walking distances from our hotel (a few blocks 'ok', miles 'no'), and although we are not putting this trip on a 'tight' budget, we are not up to "breaking the bank" either, and we would really like to try different types of foods each day.
Here are some restaurants being considered (alphabetically-arranged):
- Joe Fortes Seafood & Chop House (777 Thurlow) -- fish/seafood and/or steaks.
- Salam Bombay (755 Burrard) -- for Indian cuisine (buffet).
- Thai House (1116 Robson) -- Thai cuisine.
We only have the three nights of dinners -- and are "leaning" towards 'Indian', 'fish/seafood', and 'Thai' or 'Japanese'. We much-enjoy 'Chinese', but are not including it as we enjoy such cuisine often (so it would not provide a 'treat' during this stay). Would these three restaurants be good choices for us? I do know Joe Fortes, but it has been a good many years since I have been there. I do not know, but have read mostly good reviews of the other two places.
Any comments on these restaurants, and/or suggestions for alternatives are welcomed and would be most-appreciated.
Thanks …… and happy travelling/dining everyone!!
John

For Indian, we really enjoyed Vij's:

The food was really fresh tasting and interesing, and while they don't take reservations, a hostess passes around little nibbles to the people waiting.

second the recommendation for vij's, it's out of this world. it's outside of downtown so you'd have to take a cab but it's well worth it.
i went to joe forte's recently after not going for a number of years and it was good as ever.

Does anyone have "dining experiences" comments on:
-- for Thai cuisine: Thida Thai (on Davie Street), and Chau (on Robson)?
-- for Indian cuisine: All India Restaurant (on Davie)?
-- for Russian/Ukrainian: Ukrainian Village (on Denman)?
-- for Chinese cuisine: Hon's Wun-Tun (on Robson)?
