Nova Scotia in June?
My husband, 15 year old son and I are thinking of going to Nova Scotia in late June of this year.

Is that a good time? What is the weather like? Where is the best place to see whales?

Where would you recommend we stay? We like inns, but we need a seperate bedroom for our son. We were thinking it would be best to rent a house for a week, but we don't want to be bound to one area.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Diana Frank

June in Nova Scotia should be a great time because of the long hours of daylight. The beaches south of Halifax are nice and by late June they should be warm enough, but Nova Scotia has a lot to see other than beaches. I cannot help you with accommodations because there are only 2 of us, but let me suggest that you call the Noval Scotia Information service and get a copy of the tour guide. It lists many places to stay. (Ours was called the Doers and Dreamers Guide.) The number I have is 1-800-565-0000. I also recall that I consulted a web site before we went two years ago.

We took a whale watching cruise from Cheticamp. We saw whales, but not big ones. My suggestion would be to take a cruise from the very tip of Cape Breton Island because the boat would get out to deeper water where your chances of seeing a monster would be better. On the other hand, the pilot whales we saw from Cheticamp are usually in that area.
If you can, see the fortress at Louisbourg. It is more tied in with our history than US books usually give it credit for, and you get a glimpse into life as it was.
There are a lot of bed and breakfasts in that area and the ones we stayed in were good. One was in Cheticamp, but it was more of a motel with a decent breakfast included. The other one was in Sackville in New Brunswick, just over the line.
