Hi Jim, <BR>we have stayed at the Delta Halifax dowtown Halifax and enjoyed the location. I have read many posts on the Waverly Inn, they have a web site and it looks really nice(do a search) On the Cabot Trail we have stayed at the Keltic Lodge many years ago and are considering it again for this year.

Halifax has nice hotels but have not stayed there. Ditto on the Keltic Lodge, it is in Ingonish and a beautiful spot. Owned by the government I believe. The last time we were there, there are no TVs in the rooms but no need as there is so much to do out and about. Enjoy.

I stayed at Waverley Inn and it was wonderful. The location couldn't be better; it's walking distance to everything and only a few blocks from the waterfront. Rates are very reasonable and include breakfast plus snacks (cookies, that sort of thing). Rooms are comfy and quiet, and there's a little sundeck. Parking is free and very convenient. The staff is friendly and there are some beautiful antique furnishings. Make sure you visit the public gardens in Halifax; they're gorgeous. Dinner at Salty's on the waterfront is a real treat -- try the seafood pie with garlic mashed potatoes. There is also a historic old brewpub just down the street from the Waverly Inn that we enjoyed.

I just booked hotel reservations for July at Halliburton House in Halifax - across the street from the Waverly Inn. Sounds like a wonderful place - elegant town inn was the description - halliburton.ns.ca - room with queen bed is $155 Canadian + tax, includes free parking and light buffet breakfast

Jim, a possibility to consider would be the Holiday Inn Harbourview in Dartmouth. It's a pleasant walk down to the municipal ferry, which will take you directly to the Halifax waterfront area. Be sure to join the Priority Club before you reserve, since in the past, they have set aside some nice rooms on an upper floor for those members. Happy Trails!

Jim, the Keltic Lodge is the only way to go if you want to stay on the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. In the city of Sydney, I believe that the nicest hotel is the Cambridge Suites on the water, however, I've never stayed there. The suggestions for Halifax are great, both the Waverly Inn and Haliburton House are in an excellent location. Enjoy!
