Niagara Falls Trip Report Part 3
If you do not have much time or do not like to wait on lines this can be a good option. The tour took you to Journey Behind the Falls, Skylon Terrace, and a few other attractions including Maid of the Mist. We had free airline tickets from JetBlue which is why we flew into Buffalo, NY. From there we took a car service called Niagara Airbus. They had two options a shuttle bus where they picked up other passengers or your own Lincoln Town Car. The shuttle bus was appx $50 per person and the car was $150. We ended up taking the car service as our flight came in at 8:30am and the shuttle did not arrive until 10am. We found out later that the reason is morning traffic as our driver was about 20 minutes late but the traffic was backed up. Our driver did mention that the company had a tour of the Niagara Wineries and lunch in Niagara on the Lake. As we were not renting a car we decided to take this tour. As it turns out there was only one other couple with us. The cost was about $77 per person which included a $25 lunch per person. The van picked us up at 10:30 and we were out until 5pm. We did three wineries with lunch and could have done more but we were tired. My husband and I are not really into wine but when the driver mentioned how Niagara is famous for a sweet dessert wine called Ice Wine we were intrigued. Every winery we visited had a tasting of ice wines and they were great!!!!
Touring Niagara Falls:
Because we would start out early, we would not be able to take the free shuttle bus. But we did find that if we went to the corner (there is construction as they are building an Embassy Suites Hotel) we found the Incline Railway. The cost was CA $1.00 or .70 US for Adults but this rail car would take you down the hill very quickly and you would be right near the falls. Since we were right near the Table Rock Complex we purchased from Niagara Parks a discount package which included:
*Journey Behind The Falls
*Butterfly Conservatory
*Great Gorge Adventure
*All day pass People mover bus transportation
*Save $2.00 off admission coupon for the Niagara Spanish Aero Car
The package was $24 CA per adult. You did not have to go to every attraction in one day however the all day people mover pass was only good for one day. The cost for the shuttle bus only was $5.50 per adult per day.
We were very surprised that we both enjoyed the Butterfly Conservatory as we got some great pictures of butterflies. Since we wanted to make the most out of our time we were able to take the shuttle to the last stop at the Floral Clock and then we transferred to another smaller bus which took us to Queenston Heights Park where we had a great lunch at the Queenston Heights restaurant.
It only rained one day while we were there and we still managed to find indoor attractions to keep ourselves busy. I hope this trip report is helpful and if you need any other info, I would be more than happy to help me as so many others helped me on this site.
Very interesting report - especially for me as we are staying at the Marriott Fallsview for 2 nights in June. I am curious as to your description of the area around the hotel and the need to take either the free shuttle or the inclined railway. Is it too far to walk down to the falls... or is it just that the hill is steep?

Ken

Yes, the hill is really steep, and it's a few blocks from the Marriott, whereas the incline railway is much closer. Walking downhill is okay, but it's an uphill hike.

If you plan to use the incline railway to get "home" at night, be sure to find out the time of the last run "up". It's not open real late.

Going back to the Marriott via Murray Street (next to Victoria Park, past the Skylon Tower) is about a 3/4 mile walk, half up a steep incline, whereas the incline railway drops you steps from the Marriott.

Very interested in your Trip Report, since I am planning to stay at the Marriot in May and will be flying Jet Blue to Buffalo.

Your description of the Jacuzzi suites was very interesting. How much of a difference to the view do you think the floor level makes?

The cost of your airport transfers was far higher than I was expecting. I was thinking about using Niagara Falls Taxis (http://www.niagarafallstaxi.com) as they quote USD 55 from Buffalo.

I agree that the hill is very steep. It was fun to "people watch" groups of people who would try to walk down past the Incline Railway and try and walk down the hill, mind you there are many trees etc so it's not like it's a wide open space.
LordBalfor - Are you staying at the Mariott using a package???? If yes than you can use the shuttle for free. Since my husband and I were early risers we did not want to wait for the shuttle as it began an hour later than the incline railway. But since you will be there in June check with the hotel when you arrive as to the operating hours of the shuttle as they might have longer hours. We usually used the Incline railway in the morning (it also helped us use our cdn coins and well worth the price of a cdn $1.00) and then picked up the shuttle at Tablerock by the horseshoe falls to return back to the hotel. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Ken & Jacqui,
We NEVER had a low floor so it's hard for me to say. I think the view will still be good because the hotel rooms even with the lower floors start up higher. The lobby is about 2 stories high and the restaurant is on the third floor about 2 stories high (I think) and the view from the restaurant had a slight above eye level view of the falls, but was sometimes blocked because of the trees. So while you might not be looking down at the falls I still think you will have a decent view. The way the hotel is situated I would hope with the prices they charge that even with a "Falls View" on a lower floor you should still have some kind of view.
I realized after the fact that our transportation was a bit on the expensive side as we opted for a private car mainly because the "shuttle service" began 1.5 hours after we were landing but because of morning rush hour we ended up waiting almost 1+ hours anyone for the car. We found out about Niagra Falls taxi while we were in Niagara Falls so yes I think they are the best option price wise
...
Any other questions you can email me at [email protected]
Try and write back once you return and let me know how your trip to Niagara turned out.
