Driving from Toronto to Quebec City

We're driving with a dog from Toronto to a bit NE from QC. I know that people normally drive to Montreal in 5 1/2h, but we needed an hour longer probably because of the dog. Knowing that, we'd like to sleep over instead of embarking on a long drive to QC.
Any suggestions where to take that break, aside from Montreal?
Thank you!

I would suggest Kingston . Ifs a really great city and a good place to spend the night . It might not be far enough along for you though . Two years ago we drive to Niva Scotia with a dog and it was a good trip .

The suggestion of Kingston is a good one, but as Kodi suggests you might find that a bit premature. You might want to consider actually stopping in Montreal itself overnight, perhaps in a motel on the west side of the city...that way you could tackle the rather harrowing drive around Montreal very early the next day, making your journey to QC that much more pleasant.

I suspect there is a list of hotels/motels that take dogs to be found online.

I like LJ's idea of getting as far as the west side of Montreal.

Hey Kodi: I think we may have lost the OP...but we do know what we are talking about from experience including the dog!
