New Years in Victoria
We're planning to spend New Years Eve and New Years Day in Victoria ... we'll be there without a car, and content to curl up in our room in front of the fireplace. But, if there's a holiday activity/event/sight we shouldn't miss, we'd love to know about it. Anyone?

Victoria is the definition of a sleepy little town once the summer tourists have gone. Last year the city was too poor to have ny eve fireworks so a charity was set up begging for donations. This year there has been no mention at all. Following is the link to city hall, it links to tourism Victoria. The events calendar lists the lighting of the warships at dockyard endind Dec 31 and a polar bear swim Jan 01. Sounds exciting, right?
http://www.city.victoria.bc.ca/
If you haven't found a hotel yet... I suggest Swan's Inn -- it's in a converted 100+ year old building -- consists mostly of rooms that have kitchenettes -- but really nicely done -- the owner has his wonderful art collection all over the hotel: including in the rooms! There's a jazz/blues bar in the basement and a nice little waterfront restaurant on the main floor. Not a bad walk to anything in Victoria, either. Last time I stayed there the AAA rate was excellent. Have fun!

Sadly the owner passed away recently but Swans seem to be clicking away as usual. It is close to the waterfront walkway where one could go to watch fireworks, if there will be any. Any of the hotels around the inner harbour would be good for this too.
