My sister, a Houstonian is visiting Calgary
next week on business. She has never really been out of the South in the winter. She's fairly well traveled, having visited around the world (Europe, South America, etc...) but never during winter time.
She doesn't own a coat. I told her she's going to need one in Calgary. Her response was "Everything's heated there, right? I heard my hotel was connected via a massive skywalk system to where I'm working."
I told her that just to warm her car up at the airport, she'd need a coat until the car was warmed up, which can take a while.
How can I explain the urgency of needing a coat in Calgary's climate?
For those that may not understand this query, it is supposed to by 79 in Houston tomorrow, so coats are the furthest things from anybody's mind down here.
I mentioned to her all the people that freeze to death, but her response was "I'll be inside a heated building, I don't have to worry about that!"
What should I say?

I've read this in the Lounge - she needs to take a coat with her - surely, she'll want to step outside the walkway even once....but as others on that thread said, she's a big girl and can figure it out for herself. You're a good sister though.

you've told her...she's not listening to your advice...butt out. she can step outside and decide to go to a mall and buy one. by the way...it has been very warm in alberta lately. could probably get away with a light jacket and good sweatshirt. there's no "urgency"...she isn't going to freeze to death while she warms up her car. relax.
