Well, I'm outta my league with regard to the music.
I just Googled and found this 'guide' thing:
https://www.musiccapebreton.com/daily.html#d2018364
I have no idea as to the quality of that, but I do know that the paths in transit between one little enclave and the next are NOT over-run, and are generally scenic and pleasant.
I suppose that a thoughtful way to answer the question "where should we stay?" would be to take many of the entries on that website list, and plot them on the map of Cape Breton, and then select spots that are convenient to whichever areas on the map have the most music 'dots'. Would Baddeck and Sydney be so wrong?
Or maybe one selects Inverness or Cheticamp instead/in-addition? (I spent nights in Baddeck, Sydney, and Cheticamp in 2018 and visited Inverness )
At any rate, a circuit of the Cabot Trail is a good move, and perhaps you can coordinate sightseeing with music and make the most of day and night.
We here can be of better service once you get a few parameters/specifics in print that interest you.
