Hi OB,
Sorry, I missed your questions. The website is called sabbaticalhomes.com. I don't know if the individual universities have a similar service but they may. You used to be able to google the home owner but I see now that someone can post 'incognito'.

No, I'm no longer at UofT. I now have a lovely part-time job working for an association.

That's great, gtg. You sound very happy!

Did you get those kitchen cabinets installed?

I havent read all of the posts but julianhah, Toronto and all of Ontario has in place "breed specific legislation" which will be a problem if your dog is one of the banned breeds. Find out in advance rather than having your dog confiscated.

Ann Marie,

Thanks for your reminder.

The dog breeds that are banned are those of the "pit bull" types (several actual breeds), but also includes dogs that look like pit bulls.
As for living in Toronto proper, or "the burbs", and this may sound a bit cliche-ish, but in my experience, there are 2 kinds of people in the Toronto area..... those that think you are crazy to live anywhere but Toronto, and those that think you are crazy to live in Toronto. This makes for lots of interesting talk around the office water cooler!
And rarely, does anyone's point of view change enough for them to move across that line.
The same type of thing seems to apply going from east to west..... people generally stay on the side of town they are used to. I'm one of the weirdos, I started on the east side and eventually spent many years on the west..... but never lived in Toronto, despite working downtown for many years.
I realize that this may not be all that helpful to you, but it may help you understand that, of people offering you opinions, there are strong opinions on both sides. It boils down to personal preference, of course, so make the best decision for you, and good luck with it!

Thank you for letting me know about certain dog breeds. I have a Labrador and a 5lbs chihuahua, I'm sure she's fine and I'm almost certain the lab is also fine.

Thank you so much for all the information that is all very sweet! It is helping a ton.

Yes, I did mean a monthly housing budget. WE are looking to stay outside of Markham if at all possible and not too close and not too far from Toronto. I promise I am not as picky as I am sounding right now HAHA!

I vote for Newmarket. I was born there a million years ago so have visited family over the years. (visited recently so I'm up to date) The rents are within your budget for something that would certainly suit your needs. It is a lovely community and is about 20 miles from Markham.

A couple friends of mine live in Keswick, and like it there. Not much farther out than Newmarket, and has good access south via Highway 404. Also, GO Train service does go to Newmarket.
