Montreal -- what area & hotel suggestions?
I am visiting Montreal in early June with some friends. Can anyone tell me what area of the city we should stay in? We'd like to be close to Old Montreal, but also someplace where we can walk from our hotel to nightclubs, etc. to go dancing. Also, any hotel suggestions? We would like something mid-priced, between $80-100 American a night.

The two biggest nightclub areas of Montreal are on Crescent Street, between Sherborooke and St. Catherines, and on lower St. Denis Street, south of Sherbrooke. This second area is closer to Old Montreal. Depdning onhow far you want to walk, you can get to Old Montreal by foot from the Crescent Street area within half an hour. Central Montreal has too many hotels to name. The Chinatown Holiday Inn might fit your needs.
BAK
Charlie, Last year we held our Kiwanis convention in Montreal. We stayed at the Bonaventure Hilton (they have a website.) It was a great place, centrally located with a Metro station downstairs.

Their Metro is excellent and it will take you just about anywhere in the city. I recommend you purchase a three day pass.

You'll have a wonderful time.

Larry
Hi - I'm going to Montreal this weekend and found lots of useful info at www.tourism-montreal.org - hotels, metro transportation, nightlife, galleries, etc. There are maps - it's an all inclusive site. Have fun.

Many nice B&B in Old Montreal: Auberge du Vieux Port, Auberge Les Passants du Sans Soucy, Auberge Napoleon. Average $50 CDN per night ($35 US).

If you want something more modern, try Hotel Inter-Continental. Located in Old Montreal, and 20 min walk to downtown core (or $5 cab ride). Average $100 CDN per night ($65 US).

Have a good time.
Party hard.

Donna, that's what we thought!! How big was our disappointment!!!!It's true, everyone speaks French & English, but we met several people who refused to speak English to us, they told us we were in French Canada now and we had to adapt...
So much for the Quebec hospitalety.
We will never go back there....

Thanks to everyone who recommended Auberge du Vieux Port! What a great place! Despite what some have said, my fiance knows zero French and had no problems. Everyone was incredibly nice and would switch to English when they realized she couldn't speak more than "Bonjour".

Louis,

We are traveling to Montreal for a long weekend July 2. Also staying at Auberge du Vieux Port! Are going w/another couple. How were your accomodations? Did you happen to dine on the rooftop terrace? Would appreciate any info, as we are all first time visitors.
Thanks in advance!
Elaine
