Visiting Montreal for 4 days and 3 nights. We are 4 adults in our 40s.

Any recs on what not to miss??

We are interested in history but not too much time spent indoors or on a bus, unless it's raining of course. We are very active and I know about the bixie bike system....and we plan to definitely use it!!

There is a wealth of info if you search back on this site.
In a nutshell:
Old Montreal & the waterfront, Notre Dame Basilica, Botanical Gardens (2nd biggest in the world), Fine Arts Museum, Jean Talon or Atwater Markets, Biodome, summit of Mt Royal, exploring the fun cafes & byob restaurants on the Plateau.
There is always some kind of festival going on during the warmer months.
If you are going to do some biking, you might want to consider renting a nice bike at one of the many bike shops. Bixi's are ok for short hops. The Lachine Canal bike route is great (passes Atwater market), as is biking from Parc Fontaine out to the Olympic Park. The free tourist maps as well as the Bixi map shows all the bike routes.

Unfortunately, the City of Montreal aka the taxpayer funded and, as is the Quebecois norm, financially mismanaged, Bixi
put most of the bike shop rentals out of business.

You can eat on the terrace but even better go to the back, in a 200 year old roofless building with flowers everywhere and often a jazz band.
