Lodging in St. John's?

We are going to St. John's, Newfoundland for a week in early July. Is there such a thing as reasonably-priced lodging?

As I am gathering you are new to Fodors, I will try to answer your question...but really 'reasonably-priced' is so much in the eye of the beholder.

You can stay at the Fairmont in a suite of rooms overlooking the harbour and pay $400. Or you can stay at Maunder Manor on a lovely tree-lined residential street and pay $55.

One is a huge, fancy old-style hotel with satellite TV, internet hookup and room service. The other is a B&B with Don and Yvonne to guide your stay.

The there is everything in between including boutique hotels on the waterfront and even a camping site in a city park.

You will have to narrow it down.

Never been there so can't help with a place to stay suggestion but wanted to say I want to go based on the wonderful series of ads that the government of Newfoundland is running on tv right now - they are very well done and just want to make me pack and rush right to the airport. And I've a couple of friends who feel the same way.

Yes, Sally...I love those ads...I really hope that they are being shown all over the world as Newfoundland and Labrador are not well known as tourist destinations and, with the loss of the cod fishery and the loss of all those forestry industry jobs, they are really counting on the growth or tourism!

Alas, I haven't seen those ads being shown in the NYC metropolitan area. Sure wish I could see them.
