How to get to the Cabot Trail?

To get to the Cabot Trail, do we have to fly to Halifax and drive? I realize it's quite a long drive. Flights to Sydney seem very limited, and Charlottestown PEI is $$$ on airfare. Are those the only closeby airports?
Thanks!

Maybe try Moncton NB, but Halifax I think is closer. Sydney would be the best.

Hi Linda
I'm sure your cheapest airfare will be to Halifax Int. airport. From the airport to Cheticamp, which is the start of the trail,is a 5hr drive.Done it lots of times if you want any camping info.I'm your man! steve

Hi Linda,
I'm from Cape Breton Island and yes there are lots of cabins/cottages for rent on the Cabot Trail. There are daily flights from Halifax to Sydney but they can be costly. You may want to book cabins in advance depending on when you will be coming. Here is a website where you can order the Nova Scotia traveller's guide.

http://explore.gov.ns.ca/publicationsandmore/default.htm

It is full of very helpful information about the whole province and will assist you in choosing and reserving cabins for your tour of our world-famous Cabot Trail. Enjoy your stay on our lovely island!

Thanks!
Since you live there, (I'm jealous!), can you recommend where to start our tour, what towns to stay in, etc. on touring the Cabot Trail?
I guess we'll drive from Halifax.
