How far is it from West Edmonton Mall to Sandman Hotel?
I have seen conflicting things on maps on the Internet anywhere from a few blocks to 12-plus miles. That's a little bit big of a difference.
If you need to know, the address of Sanman Hotel is: 17635 Stony Plain Rd Nw
Thanks for the replies.

West Edmonton Mall is approximately 2.5 kilometers, or 1.6 miles, directly south of the Sandman.
Stony Plain Road is 11 blocks north of West Edmonton Mall (more or less, the roads don't exactly travel in straight lines), and since Sandman and the Mall are both near 178th street (north-south direction), the route is direct.

Thanks for the replies so far.
With some of the horror stories I have read about finding your car at WEM, I thought it would be better for us to just walk there.
For people who have walked all the way down the strip in Vegas (3 or so miles one way) and been on the Volksmarch to Crazy Horse (3.1 miles up and back), that distance isn't that daunting.
But I was just wondering if there are any budget-type motels closer to WEM than Sandman?

I'm at WEM about once a week and have never had an issue with parking (except on Boxing Day). Park on the upper level by Sears or The Bay. The Sandman isn't the best hotel and the Denny's restaurant in the hotel is really bad. I would suggest either the West Edmonton Mall Inn, which is directly across the street from WEM or they built a brand new Hilton Garden Inn, which is across the street from the Sandman or the Executive Royal West Edmonton Inn, which is also across the street from the Sandman.

Hi Magnum, long time no correspond...
Whenever I've gone to the Mall I've parked on the due-East side, on the upper level, and then taken great mental notes on how to retrace my steps once inside.
In that area there really isn't much room between the mall and the street, so once exiting the right door in the mall you wouldn't have much trouble.
Of some importance is a plan for FINDING EACH OTHER if indeed you split-up inside the mall somewhere. That proved the daunting task when I first went there. (4 hours of roaming, and never contacting one another, yet we could each see that the other had been back to the car a time or two in between).
The mall is grand, and you'll have a great time no matter your ages.
Perhaps there will be some time available for a trip to Northlands Park too??
Enjoy!

The only 'budget' hotel closer to WEM is the West Edmonton Mall Inn, right across the street from the mall. It is likely a lttle more than the Sandman but way less than the Fantasyland Hotel right in the mall.
I agree that parking any time but Christmas is no problem and the drive to the Sandman is simple. I have walked this on a couple of occasions and it took around half an hour. I hadn't made any large purchases to carry with me though!
