I'm planning a June trip with several days in each city. I've read about hotel choices in guidebooks and web sights, but would like some personal recommendations from y'all (I'm from Tennessee). Since I will not have a car, I'm looking for places near tourist attractions and public transportation. Price range moderate to expensive. One <BR>more question. Best public transportation between the two cities? <BR>Train? Thanks for your help.

Dear Bill, <BR> <BR>As for hotels, I really don't know where is good in the moderate to expensive price range. Delta Montréal, Hotel Journey's End, Radisson les Gouverneurs are all central...the public transportation is amongst the best on the continent, so if you aim downtown, you will have no trouble getting around. <BR> <BR>To Quebec City... VIA rail (Canada's Amtrak) or taking the bus are your best bets. The bus runs more often than the train (bus & bus station are considerably nicer than those we find here in the USA). Both the train & bus station are centrally located in Montreal. <BR> <BR>Best of luck. Dan.

Last summer i stayed in both cities. In Montreal I stayed at L'Auberge Vieux Port in Montreal. It is in a historic building in the Old Port area of the city, a charming hotel. <BR>In Quebec I stayed at the Dominion 1912. It is stylish boutique type hotel in the lower part of the old town, close to tourist attractions. Both were excellent hotels and I highly recommend them. Don't forget that the exchange rate may allow you the opportunity to stay someplace that might otherwise be out of your price range! We were in both cities over Christmas and had suites (Mom, Dad and two young-adult kids). Montreal is very easy to get around using public transportation or walking. Cabs are also not expensive. We stayed at Lowes in QC, and had an astonishing view of the old city, the St Lawrence and the Frontenac in a lovely suite for $175Canadian. You can also get a refund on the tax you'll pay in addition to the room rate. Do a search on Montreal and you will get some good recommendations and website referals.

We live in Vt. not far from Montreal. When we go we usually stay at I believe it is now called the Delta. It used to be called Hotel des Govenors and then I think it was a Radison-which it still may be. I know the address is 777 Universitie St. and it is the only hotel with a revolving restaurant on the top, safe underground parking and across the street access to all the underground shopping and subway system. The rooms are nice and the food very good. Montreal is a beautiful city, have fun.

We stayed at the Ritz in Montreal and were somewhat dissatisfied. It was not as nice as some of the other Ritz hotels and the service was not as attentive. I would suggest that you look at the Queen Elizabeth. As far as Quebec City is concerned, I would highly recommend the Chateau Frontenac. We were there in August and it was beautiful! The location is ideal.

I'm just back from Montreal and stayed at the Marriott Chateau Champlain. I was very pleased with service at the hotel. As well, it's connected to the subway system.

Hi Bill! <BR>My mom just got back from Montreal and Quebec city. I organized her trip using the Internet as a booking tool. I was pleased to hear her reviews on the hotels I selected. In Montreal, I found a boutique hotel called Hotel du Fort. WOW! they were incredible. They made her feel welcome and helped her around with all kinds of special requests. In quebec, She stayed at the Auberge St-Antoine. It seems to be a real jewel. We were worried about my mom's lack of French vocabulary. Not a problem! Good luck!

I travel to Montreal a lot on business, and without a doubt, the best hotel is Hotel Vogue (part of the Loews chain). It is a small boutique hotel with beautiful rooms with down duvets, bathroom with large jacuzzi, TV, separate shower. It is centrally located downtown - near subway, shops, museums, etc. Also try the Loews in Quebec City (ask for a room on a high floor for a spectacular view.

Michelle: Thanks for the info. Before I got your response I had already made a reservation at the Hotel del la Montagne, which I believe is just across the street from the Vogue. Do you know anything about it? I know the location is good and it looks pretty good in brouchures and on website. I'll be there for jazzfest. I appreciate your response.

I have stayed at the Hotel del la Montagne for every visit I have made to Monteral for the last 5 years. It is the only hotel I will stay at. Srevice and Staff are excellent!

I stayed at the Hotel de la Montange several years ago and also found it quite nice. The location was good and our room was very pleasant.
