Hotel in Niagara Falls???
My husband and I are planning a visit to Niagara Falls for Labor Day weekend. We plan to spend the first two nights in Niagara Falls and then 1 night in Toronto. I am looking for advice on a nice hotel near the falls (yes, a room with a view is important to us!). We are leaning towards the Radisson Hotel & Suites Fallsview (and they do have available rooms with a view). If you have had any experience with this hotel please let me know. It looks great from the web site, but we all know that can be deceiving...

Also, we are looking to do some fun outdoorsy stuff and want to try to avoid the cheesey activities (plus the crowds are sure to be horrendous since it is Labor Day). Any advice you could provide on things to do or avoid would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

The Radisson is fine and has a view but is primarily a business class hotel (Little charm). If you don't mind a short drive, you may find that Niagara on the Lake, a nearby town is more to your taste and I can heartily recommend the Pillar and Post. They will also be able to help you with the outdoorsy aspect of your trip bike rental et al. Niagara Falls is great for the view but the town is not attractive and very touristy in a cheesey way...try the charming alternative just a few miles away and day-trip the falls.

Mary - I second the vote for Niagara-on-the-Lake... The Pillor and Post is part of vintageinns.com and any of their three properties is top notch. High end would be the Prince of Wales, Mid level includes Queens Landing and the Pillor. You are only twenty minutes from the falls and in the winery region of Niagara. Many of the winerys have top notch restaurants. You can get your fill of the niagara scenery on a day trip, with trips on the Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds and Skylon tower... but NOTL will truly make your trip memorable... have fun!

Although I do agree, that Niagara on the Lake is very very nice, Mary did say a view of the falls was important. I think the Radisson will be fine and the view will be beautiful. At nights the falls are light up and it is quite something to see. Yes, parts of Niagara Falls are very cheesy...but the falls themselves are great to see....especially from a room with a view. Do drive down the Niagara Parkway , perhaps visit the Butterfly Conservatory. YOu can stop and park in one of the parking spots along the parkway and walk for quite a distance along the path and look down over the gorge....very stunning.
The Maid of the Mist is definately worth it...lots of fun.
The area you want to avoid is Clifton Hill are...really tacky.
Have fun.

We stayed at the Marriot, right above the Horseshoe Falls, and the view was fabulous - floor to ceiling windows in every room (and they all face the Falls). My husband said that he's ruined now, he'll never have a hotel room with as good a view again! It's also right next to the funicular that goes down to the Falls, which is very convenient.

Yes, do go to Niagara-on-the-Lake, it's charming and beautiful. There is a bike path that runs along the river all the way from Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake, and I read somewhere that you can rent bikes; I think that would be a lot of fun.

Don't worry too much about the crowds; we were there the weekend after the 4th of July, which I would think would be one of the most crowded times. There were a lot of people there, but it really wasn't that bad. Enjoy walking on the recreation path that goes along the river - it's beautiful, and lovely flower gardens are planted all along it (at least the part near the Falls).
