hotel in Halifax

I am torn between the Delta Halifax, Prince George and Sheraton. I am guarenteed a harbor view at the Halifax which is very improtant to me. But I hear the Prince George is the nicest of the 3. I am going in early August. Thanks!

Beth:

All three are very nice hotels. The Prince George is the only one of the three I haven't stayed in, but if a harbour view is important, I would recommend the Delta or Sheraton.

The Prince George is further from the water, so I imagine any harbour views would be partially obstructed, even on the upper floors. The Delta is a block up from the harbour, and the Sheraton is literally on the harbour. All three hotels are walking distance from the restaurants & sights in downtown Halifax, so getting around isn't a problem.

To answer your other question, walk around the waterfront and you'll see all kinds of places offering whale-watching tours. There is one place that offers boat tours to Peggy's Cove, leaving at 11am & returning at 4 or 4:30pm - it would be beautiful. Enjoy your stay - I lived in Halifax for four years and it's my favourite city in Canada.

Tim

The Prince George Hotel is ok but you are probably better off at the Delta. They have a great restaurant at ground level!

There is public bus (Acadian Lines 902-454-9321) that will take you to Sydney but you will need a car to get you around the Cabot Trail. There is also a train that you can take from Halifax to Sydney and return but it is about $500 return but it includes meals, etc. It is called The Bras d'Or (weekly first class excursion). Call 1-800-561-3952 to find out more.

I have stayed at the Prince George several times. Rooms are larger than the Sheraton (so I've been told) and the facilites are lovely. I've always had rooms on the upper floors facing the downtown and harbour and it's been a spectacular view. The Sheraton is right on the water so you can't go wrong there. The Delta is also very nice! I would say there will be very little difference between the three. Prince George is further up but only about a five minute walk down to thw waterfront so its not really an issue. Both the Sheraton and Delta have pedways to the casino, Scotia Square Mall, Barrington Shops etc. Enjoy your stay!
