Honeymoon Recommendations NS
Good Evening!
My fiance and I have come to a decision about a honeymoon...finally. We hope to travel to Nova Scotia, perhaps spending a few nights in Bar Harbor (the location of our first trip together).
We may simply use an agent to take care of the details, but what would be the best method of travel? We live in Delaware, so the drive is quite long.
Can anyone recommend resorts/hotels and interesting side trips?
Many thanks in advance!

My wife and I just returned from a vacation in Nova Scotia a few days ago. We drove from central PA to Bar Harbor, ME. We took The Cat (ferry) to Yarmouth, NS and drove east (to Halifax), then north (to Pictou) where we took the ferry to PEI (we spent a week in western NS). We returned by way of Confederation Bridge to New Brunswick, Maine, and then home to PA. We drove about 2,550 miles, I believe.
If we would have had about 3 more days we would have gone through Cape Breton. Everybody talks about it, but we just couldn't swing it. If we go back someday, that's where we'll focus.
We enjoyed the amazing scenery at Peggy's Cove the most (in NS).

Awwwwwwww, good for you, I love the idea of your honeymoon in NS.
To begin with, and although I have never minded a looooooong drive to NS myself, if you are unlikely to want to drive all that way, you should consider flying from one of the DC airports, as they have non-stops to Halifax.
(I also looked at "Wilmington-to-Halifax" and a one-way trip is like a major undertaking, so perhaps consider flying from DC and getting friends to help with pick-up/drop-off/car storage)
If you arrive in Halifax "fresh", then anyplace in the province is within hailing distance, all on roads that aren't overrun by society being on the way to anywhere.
If I were you, I would surf the web in search of romantic places to stay up on Cape Breton for most of your time away. You can look around Halifax and go to Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg at either end.
Order the "Doers and Dreamers Guide" and read through that for additional ideas about NS.
I couldn't pretend to suggest some particular spot for your honeymoon lodging, as that is best originated with you, for your dreams and memories.
(oh, many/most of the flight alternatives make you switch planes in Toronto or the like, so the non-stop from DC really looks good considering... but do compare prices)
I understand the sentiments about going back to Bar Harbor again... but anyway you did it would mean covering all the territory between there and Nova Scotia, as if on a grueling family trip vs. a honeymoon.
Finally, I've written lots about NS here at Fodor's, and all you'd need to do is click my name to get them to show up on screen.
Enjoy your time in NS!

Wishkeben Falls (sp) in Cape Breton or Mabou Mountain. Great honeymoon choice!

My husband and I love Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. The Cabot Trail is one of the most scenic drives in North America. There are several upscale resorts and inns in various locations (search out the Keltic Lodge, also the town of Baddeck which has a number of choices).
We also like Halifax a lot, a mid-sized city with a vibrant waterfront district. Halifax is convenient for daytrips to "Lighthouse Route" destinations including Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and Peggy's Cove. If you like beaches, there are many hidden, almost deserted, gems in Nova Scotia (although water can be cold). Go the the official Nova Scotia provincial tourism website and order their "Doers and Dreamers Guide" - it describes pretty well every region, attraction and accommodation in the whole province.
Other options/side trips:
Briar Island near Digby - for off-the-beaten-track spectacular ocean vistas, and famous for whale-watching.
St. Andrews New Brunswick - near the Maine Border, a cute waterfront town with lots of shops and an upscale resort.
Grand Manan Island - in the Bay of Fundy. Very off-the-beaten track, like a seaside vacation from the past - no malls or MacDonalds, some spectacular scenery and famous for excellent whale and bird-watching (depending on time of year of course).
