Halifax

I am taking a cruise ship to Halifax and will be there from 8am to 6 pm. We would like to do some site seeing and have a nice lunch will we are there. Have read a number of recommendations for Salty's on the water front. Any other recommendations? Any must sees while we are there? Is it worth it for us to try to get to the Titanic Museum?

Are you taking the Carnival cruise from NYC? I did that 2 years ago. It was really nice. It was my first cruise.

We went on the tour to Peggy's Cove, which was very nice. There are plenty of tours to pick from. We then had the afternoon in Halifax. I cannot remember where we ate in Halifax, but we sat outside right at the water and the food was good. Not sure about the Titanic Museum. Enjoy.

Lots of spots on the waterfront in Halifax to eat. Salty's is a good choice. There is also a food court in Historic properties which has good food. Check out Captain John's seafood it is excellent. Prepared fresh as you order. The Sheraton also has good food at their pub and TGI Fridays is at the Casino as well. Any of the many pubs you will encounter have good food as well. The Bluenose Restaurant has wonderful food, but if you are a non-smoker you may want to avoid it. The Cheapside Cafe in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is a good choice as well. O'Carroll's directly across from Historic Properties main entrance is an upscale restaurant with good food.

Peggy's Cove is a great spot to spend a few hours. The scenery is very rugged. Be careful on the rocks and don't go too close to the water. In Halifax take the Harbour Hopper tour which takes you directly from the land into the water. The cost is $19/person and it gives you a good look around downtown Halifax and some of its history. The staff is friendly and you will have a few laughs along the way.

The Museum of the Atlantic where the Titanic exhibit is showing, is directly on the waterfront. If you are a history buff, especially marine history, you will enjoy it. If the tour includes a guide, it could be very interesting. I haven't seen it in a couple of years, however I know they are always adding things.

Don't forget to have an ice cream at Cows on the Waterfront! Directly in front of the Sheraton hotel.

The Titanic exhibit at the maritime Museum of the Atlantic is good if you like the Titanic. They also have many other interesting exhibits. If it is rainy or kind of cold I definately recommend it.

Look into taking a bus tour around halifax, very interesting city. peggy's Cove is nice, but to blunt it is a lighthouse on a bunch of rocks. It is scenic, but there is not much to do other than look at the ocean, so do that if you feel like a relaxing day away from the city.

There's also the Casino, Historic Properties (shops in historic buildings), Pier 21 (can be compared to Ellis Island), the Citadel (a Historic Fort downtown), Art Gallery is beautiful as well, Public Gardens (Victorian Gardens).

There are many places for lunch, lots of patios. Salty's is good, but is mostly seafood. Lot's of restaurants within a few blocks of the waterfront.

The Titanic exhibit is pretty cool, I worked at the museum in the summer, last year and it was extremely popular with tourists.
