yes, you can leave your rental car in victoria and take the victoria public bus to the ferry terminal in swartz bay (30 min), then walk onto the ferry as a foot passenger (about 10$ cdn per person). Once on the boat, you go to the pursers desk and buy a ticket on PCL buslines - they drive an empty bus on board, so people can buy tickets for the ride off the boat and into vancouver (45 min). You can also walk off the boat and take public transit to vancouver ($3.50), although currently we are in the middle of a record bc transit strike, and no pulbic transit buses are running at all! If your trip is before the end of august, i would not rely on public transit being operational at all in vancouver!!

oops, i just read your message again. seems you want to go FROM downtown vancouver to the ferry terminal to go to victoria, not the other way as i orignally thought! ANyway, as i said before, no public transit right now, so you would either have to take a cab, or buy a ticket on PCL/Greyhound to take you to victoria. See www.mybc.com for maps of vancouver and driving directions so that you can see exactly where you are staying.

It's easy to take the Pacific Coachlines bus between downtown Vancouver and downtown Victoria. I should say it's easy from the bus depot because I don't know how far away Burnaby Street is.

The price includes the ferry fare. Luggage, if any, is locked away on the bus so you can forget about it while on board. Just hand carry anything you might need for the approx. one-and-a-half hour ferry trip, like money, jacket, camera, reading material. With the buses you're usually first on (no line-up hassles like with a car) and first off. As I've mentioned to others, make a note of your bus number so you know which one to get back on when the ferry docks. If you want the same bus seats all the way through, you can leave something of little value like a sweater, bag or magazine on your seat.
