Run that one by us again please.
Just what area are you talking about?
In area, Canada is about the size of the 48 contiguous states. From east to west, it extends over 3,000 miles.
OK here is one. Visit Kluane National Park in northwestern Canada. It is not a tourist trap.

Al, now that was not very nice. It was obvious to me that they are visiting the Niagra Falls by the header. Jim, have a great time. I was there only once and too long ago to remember, but we had a great time. Stay at a nice hotel or motel and check with the Service Desk for advise. I remember we ate in some very nice places.

Al, you need to visit the Kepoch.
KN1

Hi! We're from Toronto and even there are tonnes of cheesy tourist traps in the Falls area we still like to go down and enjoy what the Falls has to offer. Just stay out of the really cheesy ones like any establishment on Clifton Hill, Planet Hollywood and the like. You might want to consider just walking along the falls or taking a nice drive along Niagara Parkway from Niagara on the Lake down to Fort Erie.
The Maid of the Mist is pretty neat and for real excitement, try the Jet Boats ride out of Niagara on the Lake.
There is the Butterfly Pavillion, the Floral Clock, Brock's Monument, Niagara on the Lake and all sorts of great little antique shops sprinklered about. There are also forts to explore. Your hotel will have brochures on all of this stuff.
Have fun at the 'falls'

check park's website, www.niagaraparks.com. Explorers Passport Plus seems good. Maid of the Mist is a must. Butterfly Conservatory is great. If you are staying for few days, catch a play at the Shaw Festival, tour a winery or two. Have fun.

I'd definitely recommend the Maid of the Mist - just an incredible experience. I also think Niagara on the Lake is lovely. A good variety of shops. Yes, there are very touristy stores but there are lots of interesting stores like the candlemaker. I also recommend visiting some of the wineries in the area. Inniskillin(sp?) is great and its Ice Wine is divine.

Anne in Australia

We just got back from a trip to Niagara Falls. It's wonderful- even for a tourist trap! But, like you, we wanted to see some of the rest of Canada too. We went out to Wild and Wonderful Sheep Farm (I think that's the name) about 45 minutes away from the falls and took a tour- my kids (10-12) loved it and so did we, but best of all, we saw some beautiful country that is more representative of Canada than the tourist areas.
