Day trip to Collingwood---please advise!

Hello.

I'm hoping to drive to Collingwood for the day this weekend with my family (including an infant and elderly parents). Any suggestions of where to go or what to do? We are interested in scenic drives, leisurely walks, nice parks and lovely, lovely views! And preferably visiting places that are free or with a minimal entrance feel. Cheaper the better! Please advise!

Not sure where you are driving from but if you are coming from the south, Airport Road north of Hwy 9 is a beautiful, scenic drive that will take you right to Collingwood. On the way, the wee village of Creemore is worth a stop - free brewery tour and the best beer around. There is also a nice little self-guided walking tour if you are interested and maps are available at The Curiosity House bookstore. You could then head to Collingwood and the Blue Mountain area -check out the Village at Blue but your best bet is to go to the following link http://www.collingwoodchamber.com/in...fm?lnktypeid=6 for further info. Enjoy your visit!

Heard about Kimberley/Beaver Valley area? From Toronto, does this come before or after Collingwood?

I was trying to get directions using Yahoo Maps, but couldn't get any to Kimberley/Beaver Valley. Just wondeirng if I could do both in one day. And how far one is from the other?
Cheers,

Sure you could do them both in a day doing a circle tour - from Collingwood you would drive W. on Hwy. 26 to Thornbury which is about 15 minutes from Collingwood and then take County Rd.13 south through Kimberley and past Eugenia Lake. A very pretty drive.

Thanks a lot Starfish1 for your advice.

One more question.......I heard about a scenic drive up to Blue Mountain for lovely views. Is this also off Hwy 26? Would you know how to get there from Hwy 26? Unfortunately I don't have a map and was hoping to go this weekend. Thanks a lot,

Hi again!
Okay, I'll be heading off to Collingwood tomorrow from Mississauga/Oakville area. I heard that going via 400 to Hwy/CR 26 is a dull drive. Is there a more scenic route to get to CR 26?

Not sure if you went on your drive or not, I've been away but hope that you enjoyed the day and found everything you were looking for.

Hi Starfish!

Yeah, I did go last weekend and had a lovely time. Took Hwy 10 to 124 and then to 24 or 26 (don't remember). It was a nice scenic drive. Drove towards Blue Mountains. Then drove up to Kimberley and Lake Eugenia. Had a very nice day. Felt rejuvenated before heading back to the city. Thanks very much for your help and input.

You are so welcome gtrekker. It's funny when you live in an urban centre how a drive in the country can refresh you for the days to come. Glad you enjoyed. Happy exploring!
