Canadian holiday in early August?
We are thinking of visiting Toronto Aug 5-10 and seem to recall there is a Canadian holiday falling somewhere in early August. When exactly is this? Will this impact hotel availability in Toronto? We are tied to these dates and may have to change location if this is a big impact, trying to get information to evaluate, thanks!

Hard to figure out what happens on Simcoe Day.
Locals leve town, visitors arrive. They may balance each other out.
Regardless, it's easy enough to survive this weekend, so don't let it scre you away.
On the positive side, more festivals and special events.

I wouldn't think hotels would be an issue that weekend.
Some events taking place that time period:
August 8 to 10 - Taste of the Danforth - Food festival celebrating Hellenic cuisine (and others). In "Greektown" along Danforth Avenue - www.tasteofthedanforth.com
August 7 to 10 - Festival of Beer

August 8 to 10 - Chinatown Festival

Since you're here during the Taste of the Danforth event...if you go to the area, it's very crowded during that weekend - traffic is closed off and there's entertainment and so on so difficult to get a table on the patios or even inside some places.
Last night I walked along Danforth shopping and the patios were busy but nothing like it will be that weekend so if you do want to visit that street (there's more than Greek food), go before the weekend.

Boy, do I ever agree with you, Sally. I love the Danforth but the 'Taste' is a zoo! Wall to wall people and yet some insist on coming with baby strollers and dogs on leashes!
Good food on the Danforth:
Pantheon for traditional Greek (around #401, south side)
Lambros for tapas (next door)
Athens Bakery for dessert -- honey balls or custard in phyllo (south side, about a block east of Pantheon)

Lambros is terrific - I've eaten there a few times and always enjoyed it. We also like Ouzeri, which has been around a long time.
We go to the Danforth a lot - we don't live too far from there, and I think it's one of the nicest areas in Toronto.
