To help other people who may answer your question, in previous posts you've said you are looking for budget accommodation, and you'll be travelling in September. The September part is a relevant piece of information because it tells people you will not be here during the Calgary Stampede in July, which has its own set of requirements.

If you'll be arriving in Calgary late at night and heading out to the mountains the next morning, I recommend the Sandman Calgary West. You would drive across Calgary from the airport in the northeast quadrant to the western city limits at night, when the volume of traffic was low. That means you would not have to cross Calgary during rush hour traffic in the morning, and you'd be well placed to begin your drive to the mountains.

If you'll be landing at Calgary Airport late at night and heading south to Waterton Lakes National Park the following morning, a convenient place for you to stay would be on Macleod Trail South.

If you want to sight see in Calgary itself, I recommend the downtown core or Motel Village in the northwest quadrant. There are some moderately priced hotel, like a Sandman, a Ramada and a Holiday Inn in the downtown core. Each of these chains has other hotels in Calgary, so be sure you are booking at the relevant chain's DOWNTOWN hotel.

Keep in mind that use of the C-Train is free along 7th Avenue South, that is, in the downtown core. Even without the train, the hotels I've mentioned are still within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, and tourist attractions (indoor Devonian Gardens, etc.).

Motel Village is some distance from the downtown core, in the northwest quadrant of Calgary. However, it has good C-Train access to the downtown core. Properties in Motel Village typically provide complimentary parking. You can recognize the properties' names because they are located on Banff Trail NW and the have "Motel Village" or "University" in their names.

If you want to spend a night in Calgary before leaving on a morning flight, your best bet is the northeast quadrant, in which the airport is located. You'll recognize those properties by the fact that their street addresses end in NE and many of them have the word "Airport" in their names. However, with the exception of the Delta Calgary Airport Hotel, which is in the airport complex, the word "Airport" in the hotel's name does not mean that it is located IN the airport. Rather, it just means that it is relatively close to the airport.

You can use Expedia.ca or some such website to search for hotels and find out their price ranges. Generally speaking, the price gives you a reasonable idea of the hotel's amenities and comfort level.

Once you've narrowed down the choices to two or three, check out the travellers' reviews at TripAdvisor ( www.tripadvisor.com ).

For anyone else who reads this post and who is looking for accommodation during Stampede, the best location is downtown. Failing that, the next best location is Macleod Trail, which offers quick train access to Stampede Park. Although Motel Village is further away, it too is connected to Stampede Park by train.

Hope that helps.

I have flown in and out of Calgary several times and I like the Greenwood Hotel in the northeast quadrant. We usually get a room with a king bed and a couch. It is very comfortable for our needs.

The hotel itself is very convenient to the airport. The Barlow Trail is the main road leading north to the airport and the Greenwood is very near it.

If you are wanting to go elsewhere in Calgary, then read carefuly what Judy has written because she knows the city very, very well.

Judy;

Stay downtown - it will give you convenient access to all the sights, it's easy to get out of town by car from downtown and it's only 20-25 minutes to the airport.

Calgary, despite being a large city is surprisingly easy to get around in (outside of rush hour)
