"Breeze" ferry is becalmed

Announced today that the Breeze ferry from Toronto to Rochester and back is shut down, for at least a while. No renewal schedule announced though, so I'm not expecting it to keep going into the fall and winter.

If you are planning a ferry ride, better double check before you head for the dock.

I could have told them it would never work but did they ask?
LOL!!!
Who in the name of all that's relevant wants to go to Rochester?

What a Shame!!! The Breeze Ferry was an excellent direct gateway to eastern part of the US; from anywhere in the GTA without out having go all the way west along Lake Ontario to Buffalo and then backtracking East along the lake.

The ferry didn't go under due to underusage by tourists. It had unexpected and huge costs associated with Canadian customs fees, the inability to get approval to carry commercial vehicles, and a requirement for some kind of pilot's fee. US tax payers put $35.4 million into that thing! What a stupid waste. Once again proving my theory that the US government has money to burn.

Frankly, I can't imagine why anyone from Rochester would travel to Toronto when for virtually the same price you can get a direct flight on Jet Blue and be in New York City. I mean, really!

It struck me as I was reading about the establishment of this venture, that it was a bit of "amateur night" at getting into the transportation business, with people learning on the job how to set up and run a ferry service. If wliwl is correct, it appears that they failed to ask some pretty basic questions and make some routine enquiries.
