For fast food any of the White Spot, Earls, Milestone, Bread Garden chains. For reasonably priced meal, Tea House in Stanley Park. For great food and nice view Sunday brunch at the Pan Pacific Hotel - Cafe Pacifica. Tojo's and Shijo for Japanese food, Kirin & Sun Sui Wah for Chinese.
I love LeCrocodile, 100 Burrard Street, fashionable, elegant Alsace/French food. Some web sites to check are:
www.vanmag.com/diningout
http://epicurous.com/g_gourmet/g04_d...vancouver.html

Other great places:
Diva at the Met, 645 Howe Street
Bishops, 2183 West 4th Street
Lumiere, 2551 West Broadway
Chartwell at the Four Seasons
Villa del Lupo located at 869 Hamilton St. which is just a few blocks east of Granville.

Fodors indicates that this restaurant is where Vancouver top chefs go for Italian food. After eating there I can see why. It is truly superb. The service was terrific and the food better. Fodors describes a couple of dishes that are no longer served at the restaurant, but it does not matter.

Villa del Lupo is as good an Italian restaurant (Northern cuisine) that I have ever had and with the currency exchange rates, it is quite reasonable in price for a US person.

Just got back last night. I highly recommend La Terrazza at 1088 Cambie St. Also Oritalia on Hornby. Both are rather new. Food was excellent, and beautifully presented. Also, I've heard excellent things about Diva at the Met. Caffe de Medici has good food and is pretty if you sit in the rear of the restaurant.

Having just returned from Vancouver, I would like to give my opinion. My wife and I printed out pages from the Vancouver Magazine website that lists locals' favorites for all cuisines. Our two favorite meals were at the Chili Club (Thai-downtown), and Sami's (Indian-fusion about 1 mi. S of downtown). Both were sublime! We also liked the chain Earl's for casual, inexpensive, but delicious entrees. Try the pasta and the ribs!

Delicious food and amazing views: It was recommended to us by a friend from Vancouver and it was a wonderful dining experience.

Salmon House on the Hill

From Downtown Vancouver, take Georgia to the Lions Gate Bridge, Cross Lions gate bridge, take West Vancouver exit (Marine Rd.), take a right on 21st Ave, left at stop sign under the highway (2nd or 3rd. stop sign), right on Folkstone Rd., Salmon on the hill is on the left.

In West Vancouver, the Park Royal Hotel has exquisite food, impeccable service in a quiet romantic setting. It is next to a major shopping centre but is about 15 minutes from downtown, across Lions Gate Bridge.

For pre or apres theatre eating I recommend Rosie's on Robson - near the Queen Elizabeth Theatre downtown. Bon appetit!

Mike,

Having read through the previous replies, I cannot believe no one has suggested Joe Fortes Oyster Bar. It has a rooftop garden which is covered and heated, the service is second to none, the food is out of this world, and it is bang in the middle of Downtown. It is situated just off Robson and unlike the name suggests, has a huge menu covering everyones tastes, and not just oysters. Give it a try, I think you'll enjoy it. Like every other restaurant in Canada, it is also very cheap.

Hi Mike:
My husband and I had a very enjoyable dinner at the Fish House in Stanley Park, even though I think some of the locals think it's overrated. (I still dream about the berry infused vodka!). Also, my friends highly recommended the Cannery for seafood but we never made it there. Enjoy your trip!

Mike:

For a local tradition, have a hamburger at any White Spot(it's a chain). Ask for it "Triple O" and they'll think you're a local(it's their secret sauce).

Yes...Joe Fortes is excellent. A bit upscale...very hip crowd.

The Teahouse in Stanley Park is great. High end.

Yes...The Fish House in Stanley Park...easy walk from Denman Street...different place than the Teahouse.

Try The Cannery for seafood. It's a bit off the beaten track, but worth it.

Take a walk along Robson Street...there are many nice restaurants there...including a White Spot...and a Japanese sushi place called Tsunami. Lot's more, too.

But...the undisputed top restaurant in Vancouver is called Bishop's. It's small and will require reservations some time in advance....call (604)738-2025. It's on West Fourth Avenue in a neighborhood called Kitsilano.

For Chinese food...for which Vancouver is famous, try The Pink Pearl(high traffic...seats several hundred at a time) on East Hastings Street or The Imperial Cinese Seafood Restaurant(high-end)in the Marine building at the north foot of Burrard Street...smaller and high-class.

Hope this helps!

Scott
