BC ferries fuel surcharge

BCferries have implemented a fuel surcharge since July 25 2005.

Does anyone know, if travelers with prebooked ferry-tickets are also effected by the fuel surcharge? I have booked a ferry-ticket from Port Hardy to Bella Coola in march and I wonder, if I have to pay an additional charge for my travel in August.

Hi Tom,

I don't know where you live, i.e., within North America where you might be able to access our toll free phone numbers or outside of North America where those numbers are not available to you.

In case you would not be able to call for free yourself, I phoned BC Ferries' toll free number, which is 1-888-223-3779.

The man with whom I spoke told me that if you had paid your fare on or before July 24, 2005, you would not be subject to the new surcharge, even if your trip took place after the introduction of the surcharge on July 25, 2005.

If you have booked but not yet paid for your ferry voyage, you will be subject to the surcharge.

If you need to change an existing reservation for which you already have paid, the new surcharge will be applied to your ferry travel.

According to the web site, the surcharge from Port Hardy to Bella Coola is C$6.50 per person and C$13.00 for a regular vehicle, so a total of C$26.00 for 2 people and a regular vehicle.

Thanks Judy for the call as I am not able to access the toll free numbers in North America.

BC Ferries has charged already the full fare before the July 24 to my credit card. It is good know, that I do not have to expect further charges.

Judy, I congratualte you for "going the extra mile" Not many people would take time out of their schedule to make phone calls for someone they don't even know! Canadians like you who care enough to help someone else make this world a much better place and make me proud to call myself a Canadian!

Aw shucks, vanclan. Thank you for the compliment. It means a lot to me to be called a Canadian. I immigrated in 1977.
